I know nothing about wireless technology.

What else will I need to get this up and running?
You'll need a wireless access point. If you've got a wireless router on your DSL connection, you should be all set.

Well then you can either replace your existing modem with a wireless one, or get a wireless router which you can bridge your modem to.

I'd recommend Linksys WRT54GL for the latter, or this Netgear for the former.

Why the change over to the GL model irlrobins? GS not good enough anymore???

@ OP: Any of the models WRT54GL, WRT54GS or the netgear one suggested will do nicely.

Oops just saw you ordered already, good call going Linksys, you won't be disappointed.

I never recommended the GS as it is only useful if u have linksys cards that also have the speedbooster technology.

I used to recommend the vanilla 54G but now that they brought out v5 of it it's not so good. But the GL (L for linux) is as good as the v4 so I recommend taht in it's place now.

Ok, i received my Linksys WRT54GL but I have run into a problem.

My original modem is a ZyXEL prestige 630 as supplied by UTV.

Problem is, it only has a USB connection.

Router requires a cable (telephone like) connection.

Where do I go from here?

    Kieran.

Ok I don't know of any router that accepts USB input. (Didn't know they still gave out USB modems, sorry should have asked).

    Your choices are:
    1) Return Linksys router and get a DSL modem/router combo
    2) Change USB modem for one that has ethernet output. Prehaps UTV will provide an upgrade. Say ur current one is broken ;)

    Thanks for that.

I have sent the Linksys router back to Amazon and ordered the Netgear.

    /Shakes head in disbelief...

You should a just made UTV give you an actual router instead of the toy they sent out in the first place, cue more wireless headaches!

Thanks for the input, but I don't consider it very helpful.

When I do receive the Netgear I will not need the "toy" I received from UTV. So what makes you suggest I will have more wireless headaches?
