Ok I havent much information to give you at the moment but basically my pc keeps freezing. No keyboard response, no mouse response, no processing. nothing. all i see is a frozen screen. Usually after a few minutes of starting up.

Ive done disk clean up on both hard drives, neither need defragmenting. It doesn't seem like a virus to me.

Usually it hangs if more than one program is running, (i.e firefox and windows explorer)

Any idea if it could be a hardware problem? or software? Any advice on what steps to take to get a diagnosis?

    Cheers.

Can you give us some system information, CPU, RAM, etc?

Sounds hardware it the screen just freezes. Under XP i assume? It used to happen to me before if i touched my case. Found out after a good long time, that the back of my case bent out a bit, and was pulling my GFX card out of the slot, and any sort of vibration feck it up. You'rs could be anything though. Is the computer dusty inside?

    Whoops sorry.

    Windows XP
    Pentium 4 2.8Ghz
    512 RAM
    256MB Ati Radeon 9550
    Segate 200GB drive
    Western DIgital 40GB Drive

Checked the pc...Isnt very dusty at all but gave it a blow with the compressed air.
I installed the graphics card a while back and while I didnt check to see it was secure (just there) that could be the case..

I'd say the GFX was a freak thing in my case (pun not intended, but hey, lets roll with it)
Get yourself a copy of Speedfan and post your temps.
What wattage is your power supply?

Reseat the RAM and graphics card, see if that helps.

    Registering 36C.
    It says fan1: 0 RPM HD1:36C
    fan2: 0 RPM

    Is that normal?

How do I find out the wattage without having to open the case again?

    You don't :)
While your in their make sure the cpu fan is spinning, and get as much info about the PSU that you can.
