I am currently finished first year but am unsure as to whehter I want to go further in this degree.I have an interest in Biomedical science. If i were to apply for this course again.Would I have to apply through the CAO?Could my first year results be taken into account instead?Would I have to wait a year?

Any information would be much appreciated!:)

You'd really have to talk to the Science faculty to find that out. Given the high points for Biomedical Science (meaning high demand) you'd probably have difficulty transferring in. Unless they'd be willing to put you into second year (which I doubt but am unsure of - ask them) you'll be stuck back in the CAO system.

Another thing to possibly consider is to finish your degree (I'm presuming general Science) with the most relevant options and then doing a postgrad course to convert afterwards (there is one I think).

I'm going to be cheeky here and suggest that you also talk to NUIG Students Union...

I have a meeting with the dean of Science next week.I have the points for the course although I thought that they would take successful completion of first year over it.I just do not want to wait a year to repeat first year.Im doing undenominated science.

Its a pity adam baker is still not there. He was a good education officer:(

I'd say if your results are good enough and your subjects are close enough to those in 1st biomedical science, you do have a chance of transferring in, otherwise I would say you're looking at a year out and applying through the CAO again.
If this is the case, it might be no harm to do second year and pick subjects common to 2nd biomed because either way, whatever common subjects you've passed, you should be exempted from (and unless you're going to go travelling or something, a year out is a waste of time. You're better off waiting until you're finished because you'll probably need it more then anyway).

<edit> The problem there of course is that you've already done 1st year so if you do have to do it again, you will have to pay fees (I don't know if you're entitled to a grant but even if you are, I don't think you get it for what they would consider a repeat year) and if you do 2nd year, the same will apply.

I don't mind paying fees.I have made enough money over the summer to repeat the year.:)
