Death of a hard drive

It seems that one of my hard drives is about to completely kick the bucket. It's an 18 month old 200GB Western Digital and it's started making noises like the power is removed then quickly readded. It's also decided to not let itself be recognised during POST. I've ordered a replacement drive but does anyone have any advice for recovering the data from the drive before it's completely dead?

Western digital have 5 yr warranty.........unless bought in a dell. Dell buy WD out of warranty to get parts cheaper.

Can't help ya with recovering it. There are co. that charge a fortune for it. Someone else will post.

Na, I bought this from Komplett. I'll look into getting it RMAed anyway.

Disconnect it from PC until ur ready to back up, you don't want it to die completely before you back up. Attach it to another PC (either internally or use a caddy) and copy all your data across.

If all else fails and you still can't read the HD, put it in an airtight bag, then place in freezer for an hour. Then connect to PC and see if that works. Did for me a few weeks ago. Last gasp solution though.

 That actually works, believe it or not. Read lots of posts before about that.

I know about the freezer trick alright. Hard drive is disconnected since the problem started.
