Pharmacy Web Site

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here is a pharmacist or knows one who could give me some advice.

I'm interested in exploring a partnership with a pharmacist, with the goal of opening a healthcare/pharmacy web site. In particular, I'd like to know what is the position with regard to selling some products that seem to me (at least) to be "prescription only". I am not referring to any type of pills but rather creams and lotions etc. I've noticed on UK pharmacy web sites that they sell "prescription only" creams, but always ask the customer a series of questions -- is this all that is required to sell these products? Is this procedure acceptable in the Republic of Ireland?

Or: Is it the case that the products I've mentioned above are not in fact "prescription only" but rather can only be dispensed by a pharmacist rather than sold in high street shops/supermarkets.

    Regards,
    Meltdown.

I should be able to remember exactly where you can get the answer to this, but as far as I know (only a Pharmacy student), you can't sell the majority of them except in a pharmacy. Medicines listed under the different "Schedules" as governed by the Pharmacy Act in Ireland can only be sold in a Pharmacy or under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Try google maybe... or http://www.pharmaceuticalsociety.ie for more info, I can't remember and don't have my notes here!
