I can't beleive it. I just did the one thing I'd thought I'd never do, write a big log boards post, not copy it to the buffer in case boards ****s up, and what happens? Boards ****s up. :(:(:o:o .

Ok, here is the lite version

    COMPLETELY UNOFFICIAL AND POSSIBLY WRONG

Semi Pro rules, Shin guards, no elbows, no head shots on the ground, no knees to head standing.

    LHW JAMES McCLOY(PCM) V JOE TAYLOR(PCC)
    McCloy by Submission Round 1

    MW SEAN DONNELY(SI) V MANUS MULLIN(PCC)
    Mullin by Sub round 1

    WW DAVE WOODS(PCC) V PADDY DOHERTY(PCC)

    Doherty Submission round 1

FW COLIN NEESON(IMMA) V GERRY 'NICE GUY' MADDEN(PCC)
    Neeson by KO round 1

    LW DARRIN McCAULEY(PCC) V JONNY DOEY(PCC)
    Doey by Submission Round 1

This was a great fight, loads of exchange in all three ranges with the lads throwing punches and kicks to each others head and body, both looking to get the upper hand in the clinch and with McCauley getting close with a RNC and Jonny to finish with an arm triangle.

    WW PADRAIC MERLEHAN(TC) V DARRIN HUGHES(SI)
    hughes by tko round 1

    LHW CATHAL CUNNINGHAM(PBS) V KEITH BRADLEY(PCC)
    Bradley by sub round 1

This fight was interesting cos despite Cunningham being in great shape he didn't look as big as Bradley, a barrell shaped man dressed in track suit bottoms and boxing shoes. fight was a good brawl but the strong pcc fighter whipped on a behind the back arm lock from if my eyes served me correctly from being in mount!

    MW DAVEY'THE VIKING' VINCENT(MKF) V JASON 'BIG EVIL' MULDOON(PCC)
    Muldoon submission round 2
This was another war. Vincent was represtening Kung Fu aparently a praying mantis expert but looked versed in all 3 ranges and understanding the ground game. Both lads went at it hammer and tongs but early in round 2 muldoon got the arm triangle sub.

    LW DYLAN COSTIGAN(TC) V KEVIN McAlONAN(PCC)
    McAlonan Submission round 2.

    LW PROFESSIONAL

    elbows = yes
    all head shots = yes

    MARTIN BEGLEY(AMMA) V GLEN McClURE(PCC)
    McCLiure by gnP round 1.

The show ran very well, started on time, the crowd were brilliant, maybe a wee big quiet for some of the fights and a bit rude to Begley in the main event but otherwise ok. Being in a pub in the north, smoking was ok by law, Mark Leonard asked for no smoking during the fights and I ddin't see anyone smoking but there was some lingering in the air and drifting in which can't help the fighters. Very entertaining show.

Comments on the Three Castles Fights.

Well it wasn't a great weekend for the men from Tallaght loosing one of their competition team to a multiple arm braek on saturday and then loosing their UFR fights narrowly on the sunday. Both fights went very similarly, the PCC guys looked more experienced and assure of themselves in the striking range. (Less so in the case of Dylan vs Kevin as dylan landed a beautiful spinning bakc kick). The PCC guys also looked stronger, and higher in power/weigh ratio which allowed them to dominate the clinch which forced both TC fighters to pull guard and work from bottom and half butterfly (which i found a wee bit unusual). Both TC guys rolled anacondas but PCC guys escaped probably gaining from being in the corner at the time. Kevin McAlonain had a couple of Pro rules under his belt so no disrespect to Dylan. Obviously it's difficult to progress from MMAleague to headshots for submission experts as thier perfect records in the league will show. Both lads looked very dangerous on the ground but against more wiley stronger opponents found it difficult to keep them on the mat and to sweep them. Lads gave a good account of themselves. Well done.

Another very enjoyable day at the second in the semi pro series, the fans as usual being very respectful to all fighters taking part, the sportsmanship between competitors was excellent and the standard of fights was also great,a couple of the fights that stood out was three castles Dylan costigan v progressive combats Kevin McAlonan, two guys with a great future in MMA,also Jason muldoon v Davy vincent both these guys went to war and punched, kicked, knee'd and elbowed there way through the first round until the progressive fighter won with a side triangle in the second, again mark leanard was great with his own special brand of mcing, the semi pro series will be back in november(a few weeks after the pro show on oct 29th)this is a really good way to step up from the amatuer league to gain ring experience and a fun day with it.

The show ran very well, started on time, the crowd were brilliant, maybe a wee big quiet for some of the fights and a bit rude to Begley in the main event but otherwise ok.

Quite rude to Glenn McClure and generally rude to me when I tried to announce him (although I know it wasn't directed at me personally). So when I had said my exit piece I went over to the ring leaders (the ones with those bloody horns for those of you who were there) and gave them a piece of my mind and told them off. That probably means they will be ten times worse at the next one, but what ya gonna do I was cross!

Fight of the day had to be Kevin McAlonan and Dylan Costigan, I think there was very little in it, but nobody seems to have mentioned that both Dylan and Padraic were fighting their debut matches against fighters with plenty of ring experience, Padraic's opponent fought one of my guys back in UFR 2 and Kevin McAlonan, although not around quite so long has had 3 matches already, the experience gap makes quite a difference after all, so both guys should be well proud of how they did first time out.

The same needs to be said for Cathal's fight, he was fighting a fighter that I fought way back in 2003 and has had a number of fights since then, a tough debut for Cathal for sure, who was a good6 kilo underweight a week out from the fight too incidentally. Not to be making excuses however as every credit to Keith for keeping his head in bottom position and slapping on a submission from there.

This is an excellent way to move up from amatuer competition,or for those who just want to fight at this level.
Fights take place in the UFR professional ring, shin protectors are mandatory,no head strikes to a downed opponent,no elbow strikes,no knee strikes to the head.
