Hi, Any help here would be great,
I have a Dell 4600 Desktop pc with a P4. Last night I had a "thermal incident". It was very warm in my room but this was the first time that my pc ever crashed due to heat. I have Speedfan installed and just before my pc crashed one of my hd's was reading a temp of 40 deg c. Speedfan cannot tell me the temp of my CPU. When opened my pc up, the heatsink attatched to my cpu was very hot. I have heard that p4's run very hot but i was surprised that it got that hot.

My question is: is there a free app. that can tell me the temp of my CPU? So, in the future, I can in the future keep an eye on it?
I'm not quite sure of specs but if they're needed then i'll post them up when I get home from work. I'm pretty sure the MOBO is a dell 1600i.

    thanks in advance.......

Motherboard Monitor might do the trick.

I don't think you can on a Dell without using a probe. If speedfan can't do it, other progs wont work. Dell lock this information in the bios....Ba$tards. This is part of the reason why you can't oc a Dell. Depends on the mobo.

Edit: motherboard monitor didn't work for me either on a Dell

You can into bios and hardware monitor to see the idle temp.

I think Dell are using nVidia boards in newer Xps. Wonder if they lock the bios on them or can you flash with a different bios. Saw post before (only few weeks ago) about a Dell that was clockable. Was a link to a Youtube demonstration of it.................just curious.
