Get yourself a proper router (with RJ45 wan and an inbuilt 4 / 5 port switch) and connect them both to that.

I have a duron 1300 acting as my filesever. Stuck in a cheap sata card from komplett. Desktop will soon be raid 0, so all data will live in it. I'm reinstalling it tonight. I could write down what I do if anyone is interested.
At the minute it's well handy for ftp and stuff. Set your friends up with accounts, and forward the ports 20 & 21 to it.

Would be interested in what steps it took you to do this E_C, be sure to post up the setup.

windows has built in internet connection sharing so you could set ur main PC up as the main internet machine and connect the older PC to the internet thru the newer PC. that way, both can be online at the same time, and coz they';re networked, u can easily transfer files to and fro.

When I get my new PC I entend on turning my old PC into a MAME arcade cabinet. I already have the X-Arcade 2 player joysticks I just need to get around to making the cabinet. I don't want windows to be the OS I want a linux setup that just gives you the option to play mp3s or the old games a really cut down simple desktop is all I need. I still need to do allot of research on this when I went looking last time there was no Linux OS that could do this and I have no intention of making one.
