    Once again. STOP IT!!!

There are 8 weeks till freshers week.

    9 weeks till college begins.

Andnew years resolutions last exactly as long as the sound fo ones alarm, or the time it takes to switch said alarm off. Such as the my first lectur of Hilay Term, I swore that I was gonna be good and go to all my lecturs and tutorials and ended up missing my first lectur of the term which was at 12.

Mmh it's a good suggestion, but I'd say I'd that I'd benefit even more from learning to spell.

Now that I have most of my books for next year bought, hardbacked folders for each subject labelled and ready, most lecturers met/emailed about preparatory work, completled much of said preparatory work, laptop bought to avoid excuses to leave the library to check emails, bookshelves completely re-organised on an academic shelf-by-shelf basis, the timetable for the year printed and stuck on my wall and a fresh set of stationary including paper punch (with hand-lock, ooh!) and staples ready, my new term resolution is to make up for all the work during the summer ;).

not to fall behind on coursework at all.

Show up to more economics lectures (note that I don't say "all". I'm not delusional). Do my essays early (seriously, this year there will be no more waking up at 4AM the morning the essay is due to finish it off). Do the course reading as we go along rather than two weeks before the exam. Show up for frisbee training more than once a term. Take up a sport that sounds less stupid. Be the best little society whore that I can be. Participate in more medical experiments for money (it sounds like so much fun!). Go on more trips, especially abroad. Get Schols. Shouldn't be too hard, right?

Try to go to more lectures than I miss (seriously, if last year was anything to go by, it'll be a challenge in itself).

Give Schols a bash, if even just for exemptions.

    Do my essays ON TIME.

Spend less time in Halls and more around college (again, no mean feat).

    Mutually exclusive.

Seriously. If you want Schols, you'll have to work for it. By work for it I mean be more used to the toilets in the library than the toilets in your home. I mean be actually so socially awkward because of lack of social interaction after the last exam that b.ie curious gets concerned about you. I mean know every question on the tutorial sheets inside out. I mean actually be able to write a twelve-to-sixteen page essay on the concept of flat taxes and their implementation in Ireland, or confidence intervals, or contestable markets, or the egg-shell skull rule. I mean to actually snigger at the easiness of previous Trinity Term exams without having entered Trinity Term.

Just to let you know :).

Oh, and don't **** up on a question worth 30% of your exam in Maths and Stats and disagree with your lecturer on the length of lines.

Cheery. :) Don't worry, I'm more than aware of my limitations (read: laziness) and how much work goes into Schols (mostly from reading your posts about it here over the past year), and I know I'm unlikely to get it. But I figure it can't hurt to try.

Thanks to Ibid's help, I've ordered some of my books for next year. I have my stationery organised. I shall commence work upon receipt of said books. This might sound a tad selfish, but my girlfriend's not going to be living in Dublin next year, so I won't have to see her in the evenings, and I'll be able to go to the library instead...!

So cool, so brilliant: Econometrics FTW.

I feel an overwhelming urge to slap you on her behalf. I hope for your sake she doesn't read boards. You're almost as bad as Enda.

Nerd etc you've heard it all, but in return for you spending you life in the library next year there is a new prize of 1500euro for the top result among JS students in Econometrics.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,234 ✭✭✭Edwardius

Fuck sake. It's summer, get wrecked. I won't even use the term "nerds" as that leads to people assuming smug delusions of projected dedication and commitment. Cop on and get some ****ing whiskey down ya, make a fool of yourself in freshers week and then do some work.

Where did you hear about this?

By the way, I agree with what Dead_Ed said.

As if I wasn't concerned to begin with?

Seriously, though, I basically shut my life down and spent 12 hour days in the library for about two months leading up to the schols. Don't know if I'd recommend it.

You seriously need to re-evaluate your priorities.

Sheesh, no wonder everyone thinks we're creepy.

I did the same, I locked my self in the Ussher for the 2 months coming up to schols, and was doing stats and maths work most weekend..

As a result I have not become a scholar... damn 68!!!! and have lost a few friends and my social life.

However, I also became closer to some of those doing schols, the exams cemented my relationship with my girlfriend and landed a good internship in the states.

Schols also allowed me to prove to myself that I was capable of scoring multiple firsts and that I was capable of putting in the effort..

Sorry this is a bit off topic but I have been meaing to get that off my chest for a while!

Sheesh, no wonder everyone thinks we're creepy.

For what it's worth, the fact that you recognise a) girlfriend > econometrics and b) that you're all creepy does in some small way make you better than the other two. Not that that's a huge compliment or anything, but it should be noted.

...so the lesson is date someone who's also doing Schols? Helpful.

In fairness, for me, my girlfriend >>>>>>>>>>>>> econometrics, but I am looking forward to new exciting subjects. Not that my girlfriend isn't exciting: she is!

Just complete the freakiness, I love work too. My job is so much fun. I can't wait till tomorrow!
the exams cemented my relationship with my girlfriend
I have to agree: the same happened me and mine.
You seriously need to re-evaluate your priorities.
Do you mean after last year or for the future?
