Check out the MJQ song Django, or the Grant Green version. Not really very gypsy, but brilliant anyway. Check it!

i thought that was written by Joe Pass?
Which is a fantastic song by the way, great album too but doesn't sound anything like django (which is a good thing as pass doesn't have to copy ppl to be great:D) But hey its still Django related.
Actually while we're at it, does anyone know what the best of the many many Django collections out there?
I've just the Jazz masters one- good
and the gold jazz colletion one- not great
    Any recommendations?

I think it was the MJQ but I could be horribly wrong.
As long as you have Limehouse Blues and China Boy on it you're doing well, not to mention Minor Swing. I have the Gold Collection and the Ultimate Collection, the latter not being very ultimate, but ample nonetheless.
What great Django originals are there? I only have him doing standards really. I have a good version of Djangology, which is pretty good.

On Topic: If you're in Galway and feel like a bit of Gypsy music, the Hot Club De Galway used to, probably still does, play Django every Sunday aswell. Check out The Ticket <friday Irish Times supp> for further info. <That's if they haven't moved to Dublin and become the band Mandoman mentions>

Joe pass has a whole cd called for django on which he plays a song called django written by the pianist John lewis.

    Original django tune

Most famously his piece 'nuages' (clouds). There are many recording by django of this piece but the most the second studio version which includes a lovely section of artifical harmonics in his solo.
Secondly Moinor swing, a simple but nonetheless great showpiece for many swing groups.
Manoir De Mes Reves is another great django number along Bellville and Melodie de crepsville, djangoloy etc.
