Just back home from it and thanks lads. I made it (barely) into that only drawing and losing space Colum. This was my first time at it and I made plently of rookie mistakes (e.g. half way through my second match I got dumped on the ground and bit my tongue pretty good. It was only then I realised my gum sheild was in my pocket!) but I had a good time and met a few great people there. Fair play to Kevin and Keith? from SBG. Hopefully next time the old nerves and adrenaline will be better under control and also I hope not to get Judo slammed around the place on my face!

I'm sitting here with the first of many cool beers. Happy days!

P.s. get well soon Andreas. He hurt/dislocated his elbow and it looked nasty but he left smiling and waving! Class....

Damn I'm still part of the Colum O'Keefe 1 draw and 1 lose club!

League went well, not a great turn out with only 33 bouts in total, an admission charge for 5 euro needed to be charged (so Mark Leonard could break even which is far enough).

Reps from SBG, SBG N(me), Three Castles, Kokoro, KO Martial Arts, Antrim MMA, PC, PBS, Tramore Vale Tudo, and some other guys I didn't know.

Fights gone on the way by around 11.30 and where completed around 3.30 I think on the one mat so it ran quite well.

Very unfortunte accident in that one of the guys in 3Castles dislocated his elbow, which was awful to see and we all feel very sorry to the indiviudal and wish him a quick recovery and return to action soon. Ambulance came about 40mins after accident (or maybe he left in an ambulance about 50 mins after accident would be more accurate). Accidents happens and this is the nature of MMA, freak accidents/injuries may occur. Unlike previous leagues there didn't seem to be any on sight First aid in the form of St. John's ambulance (or equivalent) but situation was dealt with adequately.

I actually think this internet forum is cursed because I don't think any of the regular posters here registered a win in the mmaleague in the last couple of legs!

On a more personal note I was glad to see in my first fight my take downs worked well but was very disappointed not to finish with a submission as I practice them everyday. :(. The second fight was more of a disaster as I decided to wait for a double leg and work from there but ended up getting armbarred and mark leonard stopping the fight.

As usual there was a positive vibe to most of the fights, the Antrim club had a lot of local vocal support which I'm sure their team appreciated but it was a good to meet some more faces.

I'll try to post more regularly before the Dublin leg and get that win counter up.;)
Sorry to hear about whoever from Three Castles got injured. Hope he's back fighting soon. We all know the risks but it's still always unfortunate on the rare occasions where something actually happens.

Pity about the turn-out too but you'll have that.

Best of luck to Andreas in what I hope will be a speedy recovery.

The turn out was low but not too bad. From the K.O. Martial Arts point of view we had 4 competitors including myself, all bar me were first timers. 2 lads joined the one draw one loss category, and one got a win and a draw. Happy days really.

Well, sort of happy. I'm very pissed at myself from both my fights but what can you do. I was sort of in 'training' mode for my first fight, not competitive enough in the scrambles, too loose on top and then to cap it all off, giving up my back and ignoring rule 1 of choke defense once I did. I came out well in both fights but lost the momentum both times. I enjoyed my second fight, but again, I had a lot of opportunity and no finishes in both so I'm ratted. To cap it off, I threw a leg kick in my second fight and connected with the fellas knee. I knew once I put it down afterwards that something was up, and today it looks like a tennis ball strapped to my foot.

But thats the great thing about the league isn't it? You get vital experience at a level where you're not going to get seriously hurt. Never mind what you pull off technically. You get experience doing little things like listening to your corner, sticking to your own game plan etc. Stuff you can't learn in the gym.

Anyway, roll on the Dublin leg. I still don't have a win to my name so I'm going to make that change there.;)

    Hi Guys,

Back from Antrim yesterday but the pub call was to loud to ignore yesterday evening.

First things first. I wish Andreas a speedy recovery from his injury.

Well done Mark on another great round.

Thanks to Paul Kerins for been a very complimentary competitor [yes my name is Keith but most call me Bravo ;)]. Enjoy those beers...

Thanks also to Im2lazy [ who if he wanted to could easily get his ass to the mma league next year if only he was't so darned LAZY] for his best wishes.

Roper relax you have fought well all year and will do even better next year as a vet I have no doubt. Hope the foot is better today.

Mola.mola well done on some truly excellant throws. I will have to learn some judo!!!
Don't think this forum is cursed as I have a few wins and one draw so far but for the Dublin leg I will avoid this place for at least a week!!!

Congrats to Mark Smyth from SBG on clinching his division yesterday.

To my mate and training partner Stephen King well done of a beautiful slam and armbar in fight one and for out grappling a student of Gracie Barra Barcelona [no disrepect to Sean Farrell] in the second fight.

To Dave from Sbg who fought Vlad Denischenkov [doubt I got that name right -apologies Vlad] well done and next time mate!!!

To Emmett thanks for the lift hope and well done on your results. Great improvement in your game since Galway round in February. Well done

The lads from Antrim MMA were strong competitors and very welcoming to my SBG team mates and myself. Especially Leigh Steward.

Despite being the smallest round of the league this year I was as ever delighted by the level of sportsmanship. As you can see it continues in our concern for Andreas.

One or two tasty little fights I would mind seeing again [hint hint Mark get those damn dvs started!!! ;) ]. Especially Mola.mola's first one just for the throws.

    Roll on Dublin.

    See ya later :D

Sorry lads, it's my fault that the dvds have been delayed for the last few league events. I do the video capturing for Mark, and I just keep finding excuses to put if off.

I'll try to get last year's Dublin leg finished and this year's Limerick leg done in the next week or so. By the sounds of it the Antrim event had a pretty low number of fights, so that shouldn't take too long either.

Not starting today though, far too hung over...

    Hey lads,
good event on sat, the skill level for rookies is increasing every leg, well done to all who took part
I unfortunatley didnt enter sat as I was fighting semi pro yesterday and was unsuccessfull (got knocked the f out!!!) so I was doing the time for all the fights on sat..

now as for andreas they took him to antrim hospital where he got xrayed and he actually broke his arm! spiral break on the humorous they thought and told his to go to dublin hospital straight away so when he was finally seen 3.30am sunday morning they said it was 2 breaks not a spiral fracture so he was operated on yesterday and now has steel plates in his arm..

and his first reaction was " deadly it will be way stronger now"

    get well soon dude..
