    Hey!
I have at the end of my desk 2 AMD projects, 1 of which i want to finish.
    1 is a 3200 754 Newcastel and the one i want to finish is a 939 3200 Venice.
The 939 is running on a Winfast with a nVIDIA chipset which i really don't like so its going on ebay as is the 754+mainboard+Ram. I'm for the time been gona keep the 939 but will need a new board which is where i need some advice. I hope to buy with the sale of the above mentioned and a few other bits that have already gone on ebay an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ 2.2GHz Socket 939 or something very simular. So what i need for now is advice on a board that will run the dual core when i get it but will also cater for the 939 Venice untill i upgrade latter in the year The main reason im asking is im gona stay with this new build for more than 6mths and want this to last for quiet some time so my 3.20 prescott is also going as is my 1.5psp so i hope to have to funds shortly. I also want to stay with Amd despite the new intel dual core range so a board that marries with amd better than an intel lets say ie. is there a board manufacturer that is more compatable with amd? if you know what i mean? in the past i've had very good experience with Gigabyte

The most common AMD S939 motherboard you going to come into contact with is the nForce 4, boards from either Epox or Gigabyte I find are quite reliable.

There is also the nForce 430 which is an updated version of the nForce 4 with integrated graphics & a slot for a discrete card, but this motherboard also comes with integrated HD audio (the old nForce 4 does not) and well you dont need a graphics card either if your not a gamer - see the Gigabyte GA-K8N51PVMT-9 & it's cheap.

Most if not all AMD boards you buy now will already have a X2 compatible bios installed on them.

Talk about hiting the nail on the head! thats the excat kind of board i had in mind and the fact that i won't need a graphics card(i'm not a gamer) means i won't have to listen to that noisey fan on the graphics card, i have a pci-e at the moment and if it weren't for the card there would be very little noise. Best of all its my favorite brand and a MicroATX. As a side issue, is there any performance difference between a standard ATX and a MicroATX? the answer is somewhat obivous im sure but its one of those questions i've wanted to ask for a long time. Also i wasan't been lazy and have done some research but its always better to get some sound advice before laying your money down for a board and cpu.

No difference between ATX and mATX other than the form factor.
