Awful Airport Reception in Powerbook

    Is there anyone else here experiencing this problem or that maybe have fixed the problem of the poor reception on g4 powerbooks. My ibook sitting right beside my powerbook gets 4 bars and my powerbook can't even see the network. Thats a bit of an extreme..

    Well, the iBook has always been known as the best machine at getting reception :p

    has it taken a knock lately by any chance????

    my PBG4 has never been cursed with bad reception but k.o.kikki is dead right...iBook is the gold standard!

    Check the antenna connection into the airport card is secure....apart from that it could be a driver issue...been playing with KisMac at all??? kismac has properly messed up airport for me the odd time

    Check the airport card hasn't become unseated.

    other than that, it's probably just the usual limitation caused by the aluminium casing.

    I have a macbook and a powerbook G4 and I often don't see any wireless networks in the area on the powerbook (am stealing broadband off the neighbours while I wait for my NTL to be installed).

    Tis very odd mine had great reception until last wkend when I was trying to connect to someone else's network and it was a nightmare... i had to keep moving all the time. As soon as I got home though, everything was back to normal. Other people in the room had no trouble, it was just me, but I never had any trouble on other networks before (MBP btw)

    I know that the ibook has better reception but we're talking 4 bars against no bars so thats a big difference. Everything is grand with the card.. its off to mactivate for the third time this month to try sort it. Had a new antenna installed on the machine and still no luck so the card is properly seated and everything. The guy said its just faulty..my lower memory slot is faulty too (logic board fault) and plenty other have this problem as I found out on the net. Lovely.. 512mb ram not being used and no internet.
