Hear me out - I want to be convinced. At the moment I'm not sure.

There are some good games on the horizon, but at the moment I'm not sure the games are there for me.

I have a HDTV - so its a good start.

Some of the Live Arcade stuff looks good (Geometry Wars, Cloning Clyde), there are maybe a couple of retail games I'd consider (Hitman, Burnout). A lot of the good games, I've already played on the PC - Prey, Elder Scrolls, Condemned, COD2, GRAW.

Watch trailers for dead rising, mass effect, saints row, pro evo 6, and gears of war!!! That will convince you.... ;)

Dead Rising looks decent alright - demo out today, but game not out for a month. Saints Row - well I dunno. Its essentially just GTA. A bit of a tired formula at this stage. Gears of War also looks great - but I'll have a Wii before its out. Pro Evo 6 - yeah cool. Wouldn't make me buy a 360 though - it will be multip platform, and I've yet to be convinced that a football game can really benefit from a graphic powerhouse.

the new Halo, when it arrives, in the comfort of your own living room....

    cannot wait!

a new PC. But the ridiculous cost, delays, DX10 and Vista out next year blah blah blah...

Jumped me into splurging on a 360 in Game last week (469 for the premium pack with Prey and Oblivion).

And I haven't been disappointed. The above two games are superb (with Oblivion being magnificent) and from the demos I've played on live, there is alot more to come.

One week in and I'm a happy happy camper.

You think? the genre is tiny!! gta, and the getaway years ago. There is MUCH room for improvement on the big city/action/gang style games!! GTA is great, but the saints row demo has some really decent things in it far better than previous gta's....

Think of all the fps games, then think of all the gta style games, theres still alot of room left in the genre for new people, to improve on the style of game.

EDIT: and seriously, the LIVE service itself is worth buying one for, excellent.

Indeed. Check out Eurogamer TV for the trailers of things shown at E3.

Mass Effect (Yes!), Dead Rising (double yes!), Gears Of War, Assassins Creed, Forza 2, Halo 3, BioShock, Lego Star Wars II (Original Trilogy). I'm sure I'm forgetting some games I was excited about.

If you're not interested in the games out now, you could hold off (though the price isn't going to drop, and if it does, it'll be a very very small change).

Tried the Saints Row demo, and I wasn't overly impressed, so I don't know if I'll actually bother with that one, though some of it was pretty funny.

Not sure what you mean. 3rd Person Shooter or 3rd person crime career / sandbox mayhem genre? If the former, yes there's plenty of room, if the latter, I think it has been covered ad infinatum at this stage.

I would like you to tell me what makes you want to buy a 360...

If your looking for something to go with your HDTV then dont bother. If all you want is a Wii then just wait. Dont buy the 360 to replace something else. Buy it because of what it does on its own

I own an xbox and personally I never played it, complete waste of money being honest. I bought an xbox 360 because I was bored and I had €500 to spend. I never once looked at what games are out on the 360.
To me the xbox 360 is first of all fun. It is so easy to use, the entire design is flawless. The controls are fantastic. I like quality..I have a mouse worth 100 euro for god sake! and I can honestly say that ever build aspect of the 360 is top notch. The image and sound quality are also fantastic. All my sound is piped through a technics stereo and/or Sennheiser HD485 headphones and it is extremely impressive (particularly Oblivion and Hitman). The games which I own, which are the only games I have played, are all extremely impressive. Oblivion, PGR3, GRAW, Hitman: Blood Money being the games that I own.

Being honest I have no complaints about the 360. I bought it in May and I have never once regretted spending €500 euro on a games console. Its job is to entertain and I believe it does its job entirely. There is nothing I like more than to come home from work, sit down in my leather chair turn on my 20" widescreen monitor and the 360 and play a few games.

I bought an xbox 360 because I was bored. The reason I still have it, am still using it and still want to go and buy games for it is because of all the above reasons.

What I mean is, compare the two genres.

FPS - heavily overcrowded genre with game after game of shlte.

3rd persion crime/mayhem - ONE major title, plenty of room for new developers to make, and improve the genre with new games. :)

I like gadgets, I'd like something to make full use out of my HDTV. I like playing good games. I like the idea of the Live service. I reckon games like RE5 will be better on the 360 than on the Wii, so it could justify buying a second next-gen console.

I think I'm about a month too early to buy one though.

You have answered your own question then :D

I think that if you buy one now then yes you will get a skip load of fun out of it but if your motivation is one month away then why spend an extra 50, 60 or 80 euro on a game just to tide you over

I hope you enjoy it if you do buy one though. They are great.

Wait another month or three if you can afford to get one during the christmas period. The price may go down (slightly), and a few of the "killer-ap" games will be out or soon to be.

I am a big gamer fan since I was a wee lad and up until about 3 months ago I was bored of gaming completely. The only time I used to play games was to kick ass in a few games of Pro Evo on the xbox. I hadn't been excited about games coming out for a console/PC in probably 3 years or so and I stopped reading reviews/buying game mags etc. So 3 months ago I went out and bought the 360 and its probably the best buy I have made in any prodcut over the last 5 years plus. It really is that good. I have most of the games mentioned above, noone has mentioned Rockstar table tennis which is probably the game i play the most at the moment.
Would def recommend the xbox 360 for the games out at present, xbox live and the games to be released soon...it has a very bright future and I think that the PS3 will struggle to catch up..

anyway - picked one up on friday - got Fight Night and Table Tennis with it. Table Tennis made sense as it was relatively cheap. Very very impressed with Fight Night. Initially not too impressed with Table Tennis, but its growing on me. Downloaded Geometry Wars and Wik on Live Arcade - both fun - looking forward to Lumines.

So far I'm a happy little consumer. Only had one Live game of Fight Night, promptly got my ass handed to me, although he seemed to disconnect before the end

I like the feature that you can turn on and off the console with the controller - hadn't heard that one before. The only thing really missing (apart from more games) is the ability to play Divx / Xvid movies on the system.

    Anyway - this be me:

To be honest, before the xbox came out I was an avid pc gamer, Unreal Clan member and all that jazz... I'm not a fan of Sony, nor am I a hater for that matter, my entire home entertainment system is sony wega!!! But I hate the PS brand after the PS2 and all its bull. I sold mine and got an Xbox instead.

Personally I hate Microsoft and everything about them but with the box they hit the target for a change. The big reason (apart from games and all that) that I will stay with MS and the box francise is LIVE!!! Xbox Live is a joy to behold and should be the staple part of any serious gamers diet. Last night I was playing a P1 championship series in Forza Motorsport, came second over all but man what a rush... dont get it that good when your playing the computer!!!

These are the 3 most complete games out on the 360 atm and defo a good reason to buy one. They've got good single player and really good online play.

COD2 doesn't really interest me, because I'm a bit turned off that whole war shooter genre (overkill). PGR - ditto - not that big into racing games. GRAW, I'd like to pick up at some stage. I'd say the online component is immense.

Well I ain't buyin any more games for the moment. The console itself was expensive enough. I can see why its expensive, but it is restrictive to a lot of people.

On the Dead Rising demo, didn't thrill me, but it was kinda aimless wandering - in the actual game there will be objective and tasks etc.

I bought one on saturday and I have to say i am initially pleased with it, I have GRAW, Far Cry and PGR.

Have to agree about Dead Rising, the general zombie crushing is pointless, oh so fun but for how long. There is a story and other environments, so if the story is good, lasting and the environements change often enough, it could be a very fun game.

I do like smashing up zombies :D

EDIT: Played Saints Row aswell and if they can iron out the bugs before launch i would consider getting it
