can someone tell me how to change this please.

Right click the link and then click "Open In New Window"

This opens a new window with the new webpage, and keeps the old webpage in the previous window.

Alternatively, you could switch over to Firefox or another such browser which supports tabbed browsing.

maybe its me but this is the way it work unless the link is set up to open in a new window by the site. just right click and select open in new window.

Hold shift and click the link.

Or do yourself a favour and download Firefox or Opera web browser.

yeah thats all very well but i used to be able to open as many windows from the IE icon on my desktop, without having to right lick or hold shift.

and even when i choose open in new window, it still overrides the original window and opens a new.

Does it combine the Internet explorer windows into one taskbar icon like this:

Shouldn't this be in a computing Forum.

In IE, go to Tools->Options->Advanced and under Browsing untick the box beside "Reuse Windows for launching shortcuts". Theres always plenty of activity in the Windows or Comp/Tech forum. No excuse for posting here.

Ctrl + n will open a new window.

Or get Firefox and use the tabbed browsing (a lot better than Internet Explorer).

You can open Internet Explorer several times, as you can with any application. Use Alt-Tab to switch between the various open windows or applications.

IE 7 also has tabbed browsing or get MSN search bar for IE 6 to use tabs.
