I Love the second one! really captures the excitement and passion. what camera/lens did you use?

EOS 350D and a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 taken at f3.5 1/1600 and at 200mm iso 100. Perfect day for taking pictures. Great atmosphere at the races too.

Perfect exposure, a few tiny little blow out areas but I think it adds nicely to mood. I love the shutter speed, just right to capture the great texture of the horses coat. Nice shots..

Thanks for the C&C guys, shot in jpeg to maximise the fps. There is a good spot for taking pictures where the wheelchair users are. Raised up and very near the finish post. First time I had been to Lepoardstown, lovely track.

    Great photos, but...

... I don't really agree with this - I think they are overexposed.

Also regarding the last shot - while you can't help what position the horse is in when it is crossing the line, you should try to take the photo when the horse's legs are out (as in the top two photos).

Finally - I think the last shot would be better a bit closer in on the subject.

As I said though; great photos and very sharp. Congratulations

They're all good - 2nd one especially so. The detail, colour & depth of field is impressive.

These are good, but I think the second one is a bit overexposed. It's only on the white, so it does'nt matter that much.

What might be worth trying is slowing the shutter speed and panning with the horses, so that there is a strong feeling of movement in the picture. You could go down to about 1/100 or 1/160 for that. It also tones down all the background as it's all oof / blurred so the horse stands out more.

    Merv.

Still, Nice shots. Number 1 is certainly my favourite.

    Very nice shots border.Well done.

Thanks all. The second one is definitely overexposed but I was looking at getting the Daily Star sign in it too. No post production on any of these. I was going to try a panning shot but not enough races. Fluppet you are dead right about the position of the horses legs. Shot 1 is one frame after shot 3 I just stuck it in as it was on the line. Might be worth having a Boards.ie excursion to the track?

Beautiful photos Borderfox!! I really wish I have purchased my canon by the time Millstreet has its show jumping so I can try it out. Love horses - they are my passion. Can you recommend some lenses for me to buy? was thinking eventually of getting a fisheye lens (find some of the results fun!) :) thanks

If it's indoors and Showjumping go for a 50 or 85mm f1.8. I have been in some indoor arenas and they are dark. I use a Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 for most of my shot's now. That cost €879. The 50mm f1.8 will cost about €100 online, it doesn't have a zoom though so some legwork is needed.
