new canon eos 350d user

    hi just got a canon eos 350d trying to take some pics which centre on something and make the background blurry anybody have any suggestions on settings to use for instance in this pic i just wanted the sign to be in focus and the background to be blurry

    Open the aperture as wide as it will go (I think it's f/3.5 on the kit lens), then focus on the sign. That'll reduce the depth of field, so the background will appear out of focus.

    Set the camera to the A mode, and make the number as low as possible.
    You're probably looking at something like 2.8 or 3.5.

    Use the longest focal length, the widest aperture and keep the subject as close to the camera as possible and you will get the shallowest depth of field which should have the desired effect.
