Satellite receiver problem

    Hi all,

I have one of those lidl setups. It's been working brilliantly up until a few days ago. Now there is a problem with the receiver. When I connect the co-ax cable to the rf-in it makes a fast clicking noise and the power indicator flashes on and off quickly. Sometimes this ends with the unit displaying 'Load' and then 'a' - flashing alternatly. It's not working at all!

    Anyone experience this?

    Derol4.

    which model is it?

Zintek ( www.zintek.tv ) in tallaght are suppying support for the Lidl setups. you might want to get on to them.

I had an old Comag SL55 and the power supply went on it, similar symptons to yours. I got in contact with Comag and they offered to replace the power supply for free if I wanted to send it back to them in Germany.

If I'm not mistaken, there's a three year guarantee from Lidl.
Contact them in the first instance. They are usually very good with their warranty.

No quibble from me about Lidl, but in the portable system they sold, there was a slip saying to contact Zintek.

I had the same problem. I rang lidl and they gave me a mobile number of a guy who does the satellite systems support. I told him of the problem and he said sent it back to him. I new one arrived within the week.:D

Sounds like a short on the coax.

Watty, can you explain 'short in the coax' for me. I had the same issue before with the receiver but when I fiddled with the coax connection it worked again. Can't get it to work this time though.

I can say with some certainty the power supply is the fault, if it a sl55. It is a known fault. It can be repaired manually by replacing two 10V capacitors with 16V versions, but may just be easier to send it back and get a replacement.
Unless you somehow voided the warrenty?

Unlike a TV, the Satellite receiver is only half a tuner. the front half is on the the arm of the dish (LNB or LNBF). It is feed with 13V to 19V (the exact volts acts as horizontal or vertical polartity selection as well as power, like swinging TV aerial rods up/down or flat)

If a single strand of the outer braid touchs the inner wire the receiver power output is shorted.

The fault *may* be the PSU, but if it works and then puts messages on panel and makes nasty noises when you connect coax, I would take apart plugs at both ends of cable and re do them.

Have done the one at the receiver end - will try the other end - will let you know how i get on.

    Thanks.

Just want to say thanks guys for the tips on the Comag SL55 Power Supply fault, sure enough the two 10v 2200 microFarad capacitors were the ones with the oozed gunk on their tops. Replaced them with 16v versions and the wee box is working better than it ever did, which is good as I missed the Jay leno show big time!
