Are these required for every cv you send out, even for lower paid jobs?

Not required, they'll still look at your CV without it, but it deffenatly helps and allows you to get important points across and highlight your attributes which will help you get an interview if they want to hear more and also may send the interview in the direction you want it to go.

It really depends on the type of cover letter you send for how you are applying for the job, not what the salary is...If you are sending them to companies to inform them of your qualifications, experience etc. and you would be interested in working for them you can have a standard cover letter you can stick on several CVs and post/drop in.

If you are applying for an advertised job, you should tailor your cover letter and CV for the specific qualifications and/or experience they highlight in the criteria for applicants.

Use your cover letter to highlight the criteria that you are most competent in and have the best qualifications for and for your CV (which should never be more than 2 pages imo) use most of the space and points to talk about the experience and qualifications that are relevant and brief notes on other experience and interests etc. and don't print references, advise they are available on request.

    Best of luck.
