PowerBook won't print PDFs

My PowerBook G4, running Tiger and with 1GB of memory, prints most other kind of documents, but won't print PDFs.

It pops up the print dialogue, correctly choosing the HP LaserJet printer, but the printer never seems to get the message.

Is there a setting I need to change?

What apps are you using ? Will it print them from Acrobat or Preview. Stupid question and forgive me if I'm doing you a diservice here, are you trying to print FROM a .pdf or TO a .pdf ? What I mean is are you trying to create a pdf from the printer dialog which creates a .pdf file or are you trying to print a pdf document displayed in Acrobat, Word, Preview etc.

If I d/l a pdf from anywhere it displays in either Acrobat via Safari or through preview and clicking print works without any alterations. I use a Canon i965.

Trying to print other people's PDFs - pages of manuals, say, so I can read them on the bus.

Yes, it prints from Preview, as I've just discovered (thanks!) so in a way the problem's solved - but it's odd that it won't print from Safari or Acrobat Reader. It claims in the print utility's log that it's been printed, just no pages. Perhaps this is Apple's contribution to saving the environment.

There's an app called xPDF that handles them slightly better than Preview.

I think you're looking for some sort of web plugin as well. Preview opens them fine with Firefox for me on Tiger

Acrobat installs itself as a browser plugin by default. On my system if I click on a web based .pdf it opens within Acrobat within Safari.

What about page size ? Are the docs you're viewing US Letter rather than A4 or some other issue with perhaps margin sizes or maybe fonts ? Does the printer have enough memory to hold the rendered document ?

Check the System Preferences/Print&Fax/Printer Queue to see if the doc goes through.
