    Hi,
You think its possible to get a fast gaming pc (just the box) that will do for most games for 400 euros or less? I found some german sites off ebay with fairly decent machines.. but I am so far behind the tech these days I dont know whats good anymore..

If you know any good deals or sites, that would be great.. I am not looking for a monster machine, just a good one..

He he, But if you have that kind of budget go for the Xbox360..

To buy a GFX card that is on par with the one in the Xbox360 would cost €400 alone...

Have a rig at the moment?, you could trnasfer everything into that. The cheapest half decent system i could come up with was around 490 on komplett.

best bet is probably to keep an eye out for a second hand system on adverts.ie

PogMoThoin actually makes a good point about the Xbox 360 it is essentially equivalent to a current decent gaming PC so do consider it but the games are horrendously expensive compared to PC games even when it's the same game.

    If the games you play are generally PC only then this is about the best I could come up with and should handle games well enough with medium detail settings but you are still missing some bits mouse, keyboard, monitor, OS, & a case;

    Athlon 64 3000+
Gigabyte nForce 430 with HD audio
256MB DDR 400 DIMM (buy two)
    7600GS graphics card
    Samsung 200GB HD
    LG DVD-ROM

    Total price €408

Cheapest case with a power supply to power that lot above - €64

    Komplett seems to be ripoff..?

What you think of this pc..

seems ok for the price, only 30 for the shipping

    Actually here's their main site..

    http://www.ankermann-pc.com/en/

    Go to special offers

I don't think Komplett's prices are unfair that machine I specified above includes a good mid range graphics card which eats up the largest portion of your tight budget.

While some of those Ankermann PC's are good value for money all those special offer PC's ship with integrated graphics or bottom of the barrel GPU's barely capable of running games. You'd still need to upgrade the graphics card if actually wanted to play anything decent.

For instance with a 7600GS added in the price of that Ankerman PC comes to €458, vs the Komplett self build with case at €472

    Ankerman vs Komplett
    P4 3Ghz vs A64 3000+ (K better)
    1GB RAM vs 512MB (A better)
    160GB HD vs 200GB HD (K better)
DVD writer vs DVD reader (A better)
AC97 Audio vs High Definition Audio (K better)

So you can see there are good points for both systems but I think the Komplett self build edges it out, though if you don't like self building systems then the Ankerman would be a more prudent choice.

If you want to cut back on the GPU power with the Ankerman PC in the graphics section instead of the 7600GS select the PCI-E 6600GT for €64 not quite as good but still a resonable GPU.

Thanks v much for that, komplett isnt so bad..

What about picking up a cheapish Dell refurb box, like a 5150c box, p4 2.8, 512 ram and adding a good grapics card to it.. it would save me the cost of having to buy xp and i think i could do it for around 400..

I think what needs to be bluntly said is that it is not possible to play the latest games on a €400 budget. Games like BF2 which are supposed to require 2gigs of RAM and GRAW which needs 512MB GPU are just the iceberg, expect more resource guzzling games to drop within the next year, and to increase exponentially once DX10 rears its expensive (yet pretty) head. Any system you buy with €400 will instantly be obsolete to any new games coming on the market. So if you want a PC for classic gaming €400 is a safe bet, for future proofing... see PogMoThoin's sig :D

I dont want to run bf2 full res
just the best gaming pc box i can get for under 400

i am thinking a refurb dell 5150 p2.8 box and buy a graphics card with the change (maybe 100 euro to 130 euro)

wouldnt have to buy xp then
