7 seater estate?

Anyone have any recommendations for 7 seater estates or know of any for sale. MAte of mine is looking for a 7 seater as he has 2 kids with twins on the way. He's an electrician so wants it to double as a work car which is why he wants an estate. I've seen a few of the older model Lagunas with seats in the boot but havnt noticed other makes with the same configuration.

There isnt really an option on the used car sites for this as a seperate option.Cheers for any help. He hasnt reallhy set a budget but i reckon nothing newer than 3 years old.

If you mean a genuine estate car with 3 rows then there is only one sane choice - the w124 series e class many of which came with a 3rd row which fold up from the boot floor.

Shoot me - but I've got a Zafira (forced on me by work, but hey, its free) and I have to say it's quite versatile. The whole seat folding/sliding arrangement is quite good. Basically I can have it in 7 seater configuration or I can fold everything down, up and forward to make a small van. It drives OK too - but I've a 1.6 and it wouldn't pull you out of bed.

However, like all 7 seaters there's little or no luggage space when all 7 seats are in use. Your mate will need to have room for a double buggy and it could be tight in the Zafira. For loads of space a VW Transporter/Caravelle would be the job - a bit on the big side, possibly.

I remember the old Peugeot 505 estate had 7 seats. Fcuking huge things they were. Probably a bit old though for your liking;)

The SW doesn't have 7 seats. 2 of my neighbours have them. The boot just swallows all the paraphernalia of the modern 2+3 family.

The Laguna I Estate a 3rd row as an option I think, but I know of at least one such vehicle, not for sale though.

I know a guy that bought a 406 estate for towing a horsebox and it didn't have the 3rd row, might have been optional. He hated the thing and spent ages trying to get shpot of it

Ahh I was wondering how long it would be before this old chesnut was rolled out. I'm not even going to bother listing all my and my families trouble free renaults as I've done it too many times at this stage. Plus the guy in question has been driving a r19 trouble free for a good while now.

On a similar note in the last couple of months I've been working at the far side of town an cant count the amount of early - mid 90's renaults I see every day. Surely I must be seeing the same 3 or 4 models that keep getting resprays and different plates every day:rolleyes:

Yes it does - I've a mate with a 2004 307SW and it has 7. Maybe it was an optional extra.

The nuisance with the 307SW is that the 3rd row of seats do not fold flat. You end up with two folded up seats on the boot floor using up a lot of boot space. They can be removed quite quickly (and stored in your house) - but if its a work and family car then removing and refitting the seats every day will become tiresome very quickly. I'd prefer to go for flat folding seats like a VW Touran or a Zafira (a Volvo XC90 if had the spare cash.............)

The seats fold flat AFAIK.

The price would have to be adjusted down big time though. That yoke was a big flop and never sold in any numbers (they stopped making it after only a few years) so resale value would be very poor indeed.

It's supposed to be quite good, though

Dub13 - the Kia Sedona is pretty good, and is fairly well specced and laid out. Also has a lockbox, aircon, sunglass holders, cupholders and plenty of cubbyholes to lose the kids in!!! We have the 2.9TD for work (the combi version); we bought it new in 2002 and haven't had any serious problems with it. Also, it comes with a 3 year warranty.

Get reversing sensors fitted, though - very handy!!!

To be different to your normal Opel Zafira, Renault Scenic drivers go Honda.
I recently bought an 02 Honda Odyssey 7 seater for about 18K.
Singapore import, 2.3 vtec (2253cc), automatic/manual(tiptronic type jobbie), full leather, alloys, kids can walk between first and middle row of seats, middle row of seats tilt fwd individually (unlike zafira bench which all or nothing),the back row of seats suprisingly ok for adults for short journeys, but as usual very limited boot space with back seats up, and back seats fold flat but not quiet as flat as a zafira.Just had VisionFx do some window tints on it.
MPV of the year in Singapore, Australia etc in early 2000's.

I don't know if they're available here, but I travelled in a Buick MPV type thing in China recently. Great space, and very comfortable (3 of us in the group were between 6'3" and 6'6", and we had no problems). Can't remember if it was a 6 or 7 seater, though.

Blue, i love your way of thinking! That would be a great Family car!
The laguna had a 7 seats, but the rear seats faced the bootlid, and the kids basically sat on the floor. The Renault 21 Savanna was a much better option, 3 proper rows of seats, nice(ish) design, good 1.7l engine, there was also a 2.0 and a 1.9 td, It has typical Renault comfort, and none of the three of them my family had up until 2003 ever broke down. I think they went out of production in '95 or '96, and there aren't very many around. but well worth looking for. I actually regret sending our last one to the crusher!

The small 7 seater MPVs (Zafira, Scenic, & Touran etc) don't have a big enough boot if you need to use the back row. I'm not sure a double buggy would fit in there with the back row in use.

If you don't want to move up to a bigger car, how about the Fiat Multipla? The looks are not to everyones liking but it has six seats without sacrificing on boot space.

If you care to go bigger the Sharan, Galaxy, Alhambra & Espace have seven seats and still have a decent size boot.

I beg to differ,
I have a colleague with a '05 Grand Espace, and with all seats in position, the boot space is crap.

Completely agree on th multipla though. A great car to drive aswell.

Fair enough. I hadn't actually seen the boot size. I assumed it would be a decent size since the Espace is bigger than the Grand Scenic.

My neighbour has a Honda Stream and looks very similar to that Odyssey....are they the same car? Is the Stream available over here? They look very practical.

Loadza Honda Streams available on carzone and cbg. I actually went out with the intention of test driving some Streams, as they were in the 15K to 16K price bracket, but just happened to be an Odyssey in the garage I took as well, and that was that. Stream is basically the Honda equivalent of the Zafira, etc. but I think being a Honda carried a price premium so never imported to these parts.
