    Hello,

I have the last week in sept and first week oct booked for holiday, I was thinking about going to Lanzarote, I have been to a lot of other contries and just wondering what your thoughts are on this resort, I am going with the missus and we are both in our mid-20's and enjoy a bit of a laugh. We originally booked Cancun but I got thrown off by the hurricane season. Will we be bored after a few days and does anyone know if the weather will be hot.

    Thanks

I didn't enjoy it. Can't really put my finger on the reasons why exactly.

Went on 2 hols last year, the 1st being to Zakynthos (Greece), which I absolutely loved, perhaps Lanzarote & PDC in particular was just a let down after it.

Going to another Greek Island this year to hopefully experience something similar to Zakynthos.

    (P.S. Also mid 20's)

I have been to Lanz last year in puerto del carmen, absolutely loved it. Beach is fantastic and the food is great at a reasonable price. Very annoying promo guys dragging you into clubs and that but sure just walk on the beach side fo the road and your fine. I'd highly recommend it and am planning to go back next year.

As said already as well, Zakynthos, I was there 5 years ago and its fantastic. Such a stunning island thats also a must.

    Thanks for the reply.

I would love to go to Zakynthos but would it not be shutting down at the end of september? When do you plan on going?

Lanzarote is the business...loads of pubs, clubs, but also quiet little spots for couples if thats what you prefer. I agree those promo guys are a pain in the arse but one night we let ourselves get dragged in deliberately and it actually turned out quite well....we got 2 free beers and 2 free shots. After that it was us who were harassing the promo guys :)

oh agreed, we let ourselves be dragged into tequila bar and got free shots, drinks and a glass of champaigne... bargain with them and you will get more...

oh and yes zykanthos pretty much shuts down at the end of sept.

I was in Purteo Del Carmen earlier in the summer with the Missus, last minute thing and I haven't been on a package holiday in about 9 years (usually do the fly drive and explore type holiday)

I loved it, I was in the old town, didn't venture too much to the beach area after 6 in the evening (too tacky and cheesy for me). It is a great island to rent a car and take very slow paced drives to find little villages for lunch etc..

The food is quite good in the old town and some good pubs too (generally the irish bars are the better - it pains me to say)

Roll on NewZealand next year !!

I was there a good few years back in Sept and it was hot every day - only prob/issue is that there's a strong sea breeze on the island, but thats good for cooling you down!

I thought it was a lot less crazy (in terms of nightlife) than the other Canary islands but then this WAS a few years back so im sure its grown hugely since then. The strip along the beach was teeming with bars and restaurants then so it could only have gotten bigger.

Those people who went on package trips to Lanzarote. Where did you stay? Who did you travel with?

    Sol Lanzarote with Direct.

It was a fine hotel, but the staff were amongst the most ignorant I've ever had to deal with.

Lanzarote certainly put the nail in the coffin for any thoughts I may have harboured on taking another package holiday!

I have to admit that the idea of a package holiday isn't filling me with excitement. I've never done one before as we usually like to be flexible & adventerous with travel. Next year though we have a couple of trips to Lanzarote (for warm weather sports training) and a package deal seems to offer the best value. In a perfect world I would like direct flights (from any Irish airport) and have access to a good quality (dare I even ask for luxurious?) villa or apartment. While I'm being demanding. Can I have a double bed rather than two singles pushed together so that I don't find myself launched floor direction at 4am :-)
