Has anybody bought a wifi radio receiver. I am desperate to get hold of one and free up my laptop. The IMP radio unit( http://www.buy4now.ie/3g/productdeta...=3.0:confused: ) is available at the 3G stores but it cost €249 a small fortune. There must be equally good unit available at a more reasonable price, any pointers???

Philips ones look a good bet. They do all kinds. See Streamium. I think even the Local PC World in Limerick had a not too expensive one.

I tried a WiFi radio (NOT a Philips) and it was frankly rubbish sound quality (too much bass boost, made case rattle and vibrate on table), my 1985 Alarm Clock Radio on R4 LW sounded better.

Ummmmm 1985 Alarm Clock Radios often sound better than 2005 clock radios but thats another story

Thank for your suggestion Watty, i looked at the philips unit. However it is still hard to beat 3Gs Imp unit for functionallity and size, all great except for the price tag(€249).

I found exactly what I was looking for on an Australian site (http://www.torianwireless.com/products.php?cat=9) except it is not available for sale yet!!

What was the make of the other clock radio sounding unit you purchased? I am not worried about the sound quality as I intend to use earphones as my kids often complain my my quirky talk stations (NPR!). And at rare time when the house is empty I hope to plug the unit into my hifi.

It is large, and expensive and mains only, 1/2 the size of a toaster

That does not sound good Watty.

If there is anybody else on the forum with suggestions on a compact reasonable priced wifi radio please let me know:confused:

I've got a Roku Soudbridge (www.rokulabs.com) and I love it. Does not have recording / storage, but if I was doing anything that I would use the PC anyway.
