    Hi

Viiv build is progressing but have ran into a problem. I need 3 onboard (MB) USB headers, BUT Asus mb only has two. Is there any adapters available to convert 1 USB header to 2 ?? (not a hub)

    Regards,
    Sean:confused:

I don't think so as far as I'm aware the board only supports up to a maximum of 8 USB 2 ports, four on the I/O plate and another four from the motherboard headers.

If the devices that you are short on USB ports are low power devices (powered by the USB bus) you could get away with a micro USB hub plugged into one the ports to expand the number of USB 2 ports.

Thanks for the reply, but this solution will not work as I need one more on motherboard 9 pins header and so am looking for a motherboard header splitter solution!!

    Aany ideas ?

you cant "split" motherboard headers as such.
you can connect 2 wires to each pin if you want, but only one item per port will work at any given time.
i think its 2 usb ports per header, but may be wrong.

use google, lots of info on this

Curious but why wont an external hub work in your setup ?

If it's because its an external device, a micro one like the hub I linked to can be easily concealed.

requires cutting of 10 pin header and replacing with a normal usb external connector. (sounds like hard work to me)

why not buy a normal USB bracket from maplin, connect that to the header, (removing the bracket part if you want to keep it inside) you won't have to cut the header as such. or would the cable be too long? if you needed a header-type plug, you could always cut the wire to one of the female ports and wire it directly to what you're connecting. some soldering required but it's certainly easier than chopping up headers.

(edit: I suppose you would still need a hub though, but you could even power that from the PSU)
