Replacing auto focus lens motor

My Canon EF 35-105mm, which was the standard lens on the EOS 1000FN, has become a bit dodgy when set to auto focus - sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Has anyone here any experience of having a new motor fitted? Is it worth the bother or should I forget about it?

you can probably buy new cheaper than servicing the old ones.

have you tried the lens/camera under good light and a high contrast subject and have it still not work?

I have tried the lens/body combination under various lighting conditions and the issue remains the same. At best the motor is slow and sometimes it just doesn't seem to work. I spoke to Alan (I think) in PRS and he says it is a fairly common problem costing about €40 to fix. Would it be worth it?

No. It think the camera and lens are over ten years old.
