Say you have a pocket pair/top two pair, and you know your opponent is on a draw

would you bet the pot trying to scare the opponent away by not giving them the odds to call

or would you prefere to just give them the odds and string them along knowing that if they hit you can throw the hand away

Is one play mathematically correct than the other, in terms of ppl 1 flushing or having an open ended straight draw?

you have to give him bad odds to call for his draw, in time doing this will make you money.

If you know your opponent loves drawing hands then charge through the nose for it, a pot size bet is good. If you have no real info about the person then about 3/4 the pot is usually a good number unless it is a draw heavy board when he could be drawing to a straight as well as a flush draw etc. It all depends on who you are playing, but if in doubt then bet.

ye i normally bet about 3/4 of the pot depends on the situatuon then really

just annoying when its a big pot and they dont go away when there not getting the odds to call and river you

happened to me earlier hit top two par and bet big, he stuck around with ace high and hit a runner runner flush, muppet, i also noticed alot of ppl doin it in the merrion 100 FO how can ppl afford to donk a 100 buyin on bad flush/straight draws is beyond me

So would you be happy not to try gain the extra bit of chips by betting lower if you had them on a flush draw by just giving them the odds to call it

    what i was thinking was

flush draw 9 outs 3/4 pot bet( more or less depending on the situation)

same for an open ender(check fold if you think they have hit)

flush and straight draw( they will prob stick around if you jam it?)

Thats exactly what you want to be happening, over time you will destroy them if they keep doing that.

people with drawing hands want to see more cards as cheap as possible.(most of the time)
and your not going to get any money out of them if you check it and they miss.bet high on the flop when they have a draw.

If you end up paying them off when they catch it means they are getting implied odds on you. Don't start betting smaller because you're worried about people on draws. You're loosing value and then there's the fact that betting bigger will define their hand better. Learn to fold when they catch (which will be more obvious if they've called a big bet on the previous street).

If you have position bet as much as you think they'll call. If you bet almost pot and they call you, you know they're either on a good draw (flush/OE straight) or they've got some kind of decent pair. So if a danger card comes on the river and they bet big you can usually fold taking away their implied odds. They would check (or sometimes a small block bet) if they had a top pair type hand. You'd need a good read to put the villain on something else here - sometimes if it's a bad player who'll call with carap he'll know he's beaten and go for a bluff but generally I'd be folding here at least 90% of the time.

Out of position is a good bit trickier. If it's an unraised pot and I've got a vunerable hand sometimes I'll bet a bit less than what I usually would on the flop and turn to keep the pot smaller depending on how vunerable my hand is. If it's an oop raised pot and you have him on a draw, sometimes check the turn to him if you think he'll bet and then check raise him all in. Otherwise bet big as usual.
