    Before

Trying to install the latest nvidia driver on my sony laptop which has a geoforce go 6400 card in it.
Download the latest driver from nvidia site but when I run it it extracts it files to c:/nvidia, but then says setup cannot detect any drivers compatible with your hardware and will now close!

I got around this by installing the driver manually, buit I had to selcet the 6500 from the windows list as 6400 wasn't there. The driver seemed to work perfectly however as I was playing HL2 on highish settings and it was all working perfectly.

    Now

I have reformatted the laptop as its going to the wife, I can't get past this driver issue now though...any ideas, at the moment it uses the old driver which came with the laptop

The mobile units are not usually supported in NVIDIA's official drivers (they expect you to get the driver from the OEM) you need to use a driver with a modified .inf to support it.

The driver with the modded .inf can be found at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

Just download the 91.33 release in the drivers section those are the latest, the 91.37 is for the 7950GX2 so dont bother with those. You can also see an INF file linked next to the driver place that in the folder the driver extracts to and then run the setup.exe to install the driver the 6400.

Im fairly certain that the modded thrid party drivers work fine with mobilty cards.

i had the same problem with my sony vaio vgn-fe11m which has a 7400go. The only drivers i could find were the 7800gtx go ones on nvidias site, but they wont work with the 7400. sony have released drivers throuhg their update site. dont be expecting any performance increases though. I triedthe driver 8t8 is on about and it just messed performance up completly.

You should only need a driver update really for compatibility fixes, couldn't say why the 91.33 messed up performance for anti's Go 7400 but try the 91.31 release as those are WHQL certified, well they aren't for mobile units but they should still be stable drivers.

You may get an annoying SLI pop-up message with them here is how to disable it.

You could also try these XtremeG-tweaked mobile drivers here:

Tweaked slightly for extra performance. I use their tweaked forceware drivers and find them good. Slight imrovement in benchmarks 2.
