Going on a business trip to Dever mid September. Anyone got recommendations on good restaurants, bars and all the other usual stuff worth seeing?

    Best places to eat :

    1. Sushi Den
    2. Bump & Grind (great brunch on weekends). Served by cross-dressers.

    Best bars :

    1. Gabor's
    2. Shotgun Willies (strip-club/bar)

    When are you coming over?

Lots to do here, sometimes hard to plan. You'll need a car because it ia very spread out city.

    Bars:
Fado - Wynkoop Sq. Only good pint in Denver, great atmosphere and not the usual bland Irish pub scene.

Larimer Square/16th & Market is where the nightlife is otherwise.

    Restaurants:
Where to start... Sushi Den is good, I also like Rock Botton (chain micro brewery) - there are great places over by Cherry Creek - California Pizza is good, there are a couple of good sushi places too. 16th has some good steak houses - look out for them and then.

There is a 6 flags just off downtown which is good, the science museum and zoo are well worth seeing (T-Rex skeletons and Komodo dragons respectively) - if you're here in-season see the Bronco's play if you can scalp a ticket. The coors brewery is the worlds lagest (apparently) and is worth seeing - if only for the drink.

Denver's real attraction is the surroundings. Try get up to the Rockies - if you like outdoors stuff there is endless choice.

If you mail me dates etc I can tell you what festivals are on.

Thanks psi for the good information. I'm not sure on exact dates yet but it will be around mid September. I was hoping to avoid renting a car and get a hotel that is central. From a previous visit to the States I asume it will be virtually impossible to do as nobody walks anywhere? ;) Company will be paying for taxi's etc so price isn't too much of a concern.

Would 16th be a good central place to be stay?
The micro breweries sound good and will definetly be looking them up. I'll be working 9-5 so my free time will be limited so have to see about the Rockies although I can't imagine not seeing them while I'm so close. What's it like to get tickets to a Bronco's game? Hard enough I'd imagine. Thanks again for the info.

Well Denver is a very strange place. Even downtown and LoDo (lower downtown) are pretty quiet by Irish standards at weekends. That said game nights can be good and you'll always have a good laugh.

Well even taxi's aren't great. Because most people drive (even after drinking :( really annoys me) there are only 4 taxi companies serving the denver-boulder metro area. You can be waiting up to 30 mins for a taxi depending on where you are. Thankfuly most of the hotels offer a shuttle service, but that will stop at 9pm or so. I'd suggest you stick to taxi's for the most part but if you plan day trips, rent a car.

Depends what you want to do.

The main social areas are around market st or larimer square, both of which are close to 16th. There is good transport within those regions (there is a free bus shuttle up and down the main shopping st) and the bus station is near by so good access outwards. You don't really flag taxis down in Denver though, so you won't see many on the streets.

If you want a shopping, drinking trip with the odd excursion out, then yeah, I reckon the downtown region is good.

Well worth it. You'll get out there in about 1-2 hours depending on traffic. Try Estes Park, its a good place to start, just outside Boulder and maybe only 1.5 hours out.

Tickets are hard to get from Ireland. When you get over here, it will be a different matter. You can go there on the day and try and get one from a tout or you can look up craigslist (http://denver.craigslist.org/tix/) the day before you leave. Most people on that site will only deal with you in person though. Be warned, Bronco's tickets are not cheap.

No problem at all, you can PM me when you're coming over if you like.

Wow what a wealth of information. :D Fair play for taking the time to answer all my questions. Looks like 16th (downtown) would suit me as a base from what your saying and I'll decide on a rental car when I arrive. I'll PM you before I leave Ireland as I think I owe you a pint or two for all the info.

    Thanks again
