I have this **** overpriced LaCie DVD drive that I ordered in work (I didnt pay for it), under the pretence that it was plug and play, to start this archiving project a month ago.

The ancient out of date roxio software on my desktop wouldnt work with it and I couldnt update it because I didnt have admin. I was bluntly told that I wouldnt get the access I needed to install the updated software on all the computers I would need to access, so (after a month) I was given a laptop for the duration and given admin on it.

The drive is detected correctly on the laptop in the hardware bubble but the wizard cant find the drivers, there are no drivers on the supplied discs or on the website (there is no phone number either so I cant shout at anyone) except for this USB 2.0 driver for 98/me, Im running XP pro sevice pack 2. I tried it anyway though, no luck.

    Help.

ok go into into device manager and remove this
then reboot and see what happens...it should pick it up and again and if you're running xp an automatic usb driver will be installed, you shouldn't need a device specific driver for this

I tried that multiple times, its not installing.

"Cannot install this hardware, the hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software", on the auto search.

Its a double layer lightscribe burner btw.

Ok, seems theres a bigger problem.

Windows isnt installing ANY usb devices, just plugged a keyboard in and I got the same crap.

I don't think I can get my hands on a Windows disc, any other solution?

Edit: situation changed, starting a new thread
