    Hi All

I have an esat line rental broadband package and have just ordered a sipura 3000 to try and save some money on long distance calls mainly. Eventually I would like to port my current number from eircom to blueface for maximum saving and dump my pots line rental.Just a couple of question about this:

Would esat or eircom be responsible for the number porting?

Would it be possible to remove the phone line from the cable and keep the esat broadband only?

If not does anyone know of a decent isp in the Foxrock/Cabinteely area with decent QOS for voip

    Cheers

If your using BT Home Broadband then you MUST keep your exisiting phone line plus line rental in order to receieve the broadband service.

However if your using BT Business Broadband, their is a LLU option that allows BT to turn the line into digital only but it would be a messy setup, you'd have to cease the broadband off the line, wait while number is ported to blueface and then re-order broadband on the new number/line

Once broadband is re-enabled and if you choose to go with the LLU/Unbundle option then your line would be digital only and you wouldn't have to pay line rental anymore :)

Sounds like a plan!!, I would imagine the upload speed would be much better on a business broadband package aswell.

Will BT roll out a business package for an apparent home user? and why wont they unbundle a standard line?

    Cheers

Well when I had BT Business about a year back when I first placed a order they looked for 500e deposit as I was a home user...very annoying but as it was a uncapped service etc it was worth it in the long run imho

BT Business is only available on around 40 exchange in Ireland as it uses BT's own equipment and not kit rented from Eircom line normal ADSL, this is also the reason why they don't allow you to unbundle your phone line on normal residential ADSL unfortuntaly.

Spoke to a nice fella in BT who is gonna check whether Its possible connect to one of the bt exchanges for a data only line.

Also asked him about porting the other line before I cust it off and he said the residential helpline would do it all for me.

    Price 1mb/256 45 euro

    Seems cheap

    Thanks for the advice Cabaal

If you already have a phone line (which it sounds like you do), checkout voipcheap.com's VoIP service that uses a standard telephone line. Saves you all the VoIP hassle and you get the savings like free international calls to a lot of destinations.

Will check it out, but will be cancelling my phone line as soon as the new line is set up which could take a while

I'm sory, I must have missed something. How is this "cheap" when it costs more than 2Mb/256 broadband from BT (including Line Rental)?

It is and it isn't, with the Business package you get the following
    - The ability to do a ULMP and have your line as digital only so no line rental
    - You get a static IP
    - You have no caps or trottling on the line

So it really depends how much all those things are worth to you, also last I knew 45e would get you 2MB/256K....atleast it did with me in the end after they upgraded me.

It's already dearer than a bundle that includes Rental,. so that's not an advantage.
