Big fan of Tom Waits ever since i heard X-mas card from a hooker in Mineaoplis, anyway in his early days he would of be considerd a Blues singer ''Blue Valentine'' album comes to mind, but now Mid 1980's-2006 what kind of music genre would he fit into? Have a hard time classing ''Starving Inside A Belly Of A Whale'' from ''Blood Money'' into a Genre?

From his Wikipedia profile describing his voice

"like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months and then taken outside and run over with a car."

    Interesting profile about tommy cat

Ooof tough one there - other? :D
Some of his stuff is smokey café blues, some of his instumentals are like circus music, other ambient. Then his ballady stuff is totally different again. Heck pre Sword fish Trombones is completely different music than post that album.

Thats why hes so great tho:D

Edit: Nice description by the way!

    His genre is rubbish.

Chapin on the other hand was a genius

Waits has a very unique sound, chapin also had a signature sound but chapin has a more commercial sound (ie rte 1 and maybe today fm)
also chapin did more for the worlds hunger than bono and geldof, those two staged aid in 1984 and has gotten world-wide praise for soing it in the last 20 years, chapin on the other hand gave half his earnings from concerts/lp's/cd and memoriblia to World Hunger Year.

Truely ansung hero of our times.
