I thought Sam commanded SG1? In most eps it seems like Mitchell (sp?) is running the show ...

    Anyone ?

Mitchell is in charge, not Sam. 'Tis the way it is.

They both have the same rank of Lieutenant Colonel

Carter left SG-1 to work at area 51. Mitchell was then brought in to lead SG-1 and create a new team because of the job he did over the atlantis outpost. With enough persuasion he convinced carter, daniel, and teal'c to re join SG-1 under his command.

Its just not the same without macgyver

No he is a Lieutenant Colonel, like Carter. Mitchell was given command of Sg-1 - i think because Carter had gone to Area 51.

Speaking of which. Why is the air force in command of the stargate and not the regular army?

Because traditionally in the US, the air force deals with air AND space stuff. Astronauts are often former air force pilots, etc.

Or cause it was the airforce that seized the gate?
