In online play does anyone bother to take the same amount of time for each action (except folding)? Quite alot is given away when people insta check when they have little interest in the hand after missing the flop. Been trying it today but keep forgetting/not bothering :/

Timing is something I experiment with (especially HeadsUp) but I've no real idea if it works or not.
e.g, On a raggy flop on which I've nothing I count to 5 seconds, bet 60% of pot and fold to a push.
Later I flop the nuts, pause 5 seconds again and bet 60% of pot....opponent pushes and I win.
But whether he pushed because of my effort to make it look like the previous hand, or whether he was going to push anyway..I don't know.

Sometimes I do, but generally just to give off some kind of fake tell, if I think it will work, but basically it doesn't make any odds really, due to connection issues, taking a piss, eating, watching TV, multi-tabling, etc. etc. I wouldn't be reading too much into it TBH.

i think the only real tell that someone wants nothing to do with the hand is auto check. Time taken to make a bet does not really mean anything because of connection issues as mentioned above.

Generally true but there are exceptions.
3 players in pot, Player A pushes, if Player B has a monster then he will try to bring PlayerC along for the ride by delaying his call as long as possible. (This is the online equivalent of the 'fumble with the chips with AA' so beloved of chumps in the SE).

A little offtopic but similar because its obscure - does anyone ever try to figure out the difference between a bet which has been done by clicking the 2x4x8x buttons, and a bet which had to have been typed in?

I dont generally go out of my way but its usually ovious. When someone constantly is typing in their own figures it means that they are actually thinking about their bets. 1/2, 3/4 pot bets etc.

But sometimes i just like to reck peoples heads in games and bet figures like $27.23

I did this the otherday in a very large hand. I was raising but decided to make it $99.99 instead of 100. Everyone folds and people start typing in the chat room. WTF was that. .99 why not just make it 100.

Thats sort of what I was getting at - if someone does it then its obvious that they are thinking about their bet rather than just clicking buttons like a monkey, which I guess is a signal that they are likely to be at least a marginally better player than average.
Is there however a possible tell when they then don't do this careful bet sizing on a subsequent hand and instead they just hit the 2x button on a continuation bet?.
I'm not sure where I'm going with this to be honest - I quite liked the original post and would like to hear any thoughts on tells/falsetells online - but realise its probably drivel.

I was wondering mainly about checking. If you flop a draw or a pair but check it you generally think for a few seconds about the hand when deciding what to do. This is going to be a tell if when you miss the flop completly you check quickly.

That sucessful online player Green Plastic says in one of his videos that he always takes the same amount of time when making a decision except when folding - this is what got me thinking about it.

I despise you and others for this. Its creeping in more and more cos everyone so "smart". Doesn't make any difference on how I play the hand against ye. Just wastes time and energy...
