    Hi Folks,
I've a few more gig photo for (C&C)

    http://www.stephenlynn.co.uk/gallery/Clotworthy/

I used the 10mm for a few of them, but weren't great due to lack of flash, as my SB 600 hasn't arrived yet...

Some nice shots there, and there're great lights. Sirus 7 would be my favourite, the spots on top are great.

Sirus 7 needs a good crop and you have a smashing shot.

From my experience with the 10-20 I use in gigs, you need to get righ beside the bands, whether they or you like it or not. It's seriously worth it when you do though :)

Clotworthy_Patio5 is excellent, great work. Is this paying work?

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I don't like getting to close to the bands, not really for the band's reaction, but for the people in the audience. All those images are a quick edit, you can read the Mac forum for my computer woes...

Borderfox, nope no money, just hobby and giving mate's bands the photos. :)
...as much as I would like to earn a little money from it.

Your pictures are very good, no reason why you wouldn't get paid for it. Ask the band to reccommend you to others in their circle to take pictures for. I did enough freebies to know when it was time to get paid. Maybe send some off to Hot Press? write a piece about the band with the pictures?

Some class shots there, really. I like Sirus 11 a lot.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to go through a lot of them when I get the time and edit them again. There's a few that I'm not happy about, due to me being in a rush, and I tnink I should crop a few of them. I'm not too fond of cropping recently, when I realised that when I go to print shots that have been cropped they don't print correctly unless they have been cropped to the same dimensions as the original photo.
Which ones are the worst ones there?

Borderfox, I'm looking to get them into the local paper, but again, probably for free on the condition that they remember me for future events.

    Cheers,
    S.

I agree, really great shots there, very professional looking.I think you should start asking for payment as any band would be well pleased with photos like that.Great work.

Thanks for the generous comments! Good to see I'm good at photoshop then ;)
Those two bands have plenty of other photos out there available to them though, so they've no need to pay anybody - I'm not really looking for money, rather, simply that my photos actually get used for something, as opposed to sitting on my hard drive doing nothing.
I'm sure a lot of people around here feel like that?

Maybe send some off to Hot Press? write a piece about the band with the pictures?

hotpress don't pay photographers. and sending stuff unsolicted them will not get it published

Update, one photo should be published in a local paper today, with more in next week's editon.
More photos should be going into the next edition of a Northern Ireland magazine, fingers crossed.

One small step for man, one giant leap for sinecurea :)

hey! well done on the newspaper!!

i got one into our local rag last week - dead chuffed!! :)

anyway my fave there is patio8 and I guess why i like it so much is because of the different angle. Most gig shots are nearly always upward looking which sort of gives the some feeling of sameness.

nice shots all the same - good work

That's good stuff. I like the angles, and I dont usually like them.

If sending them in for free (and we've all done it), ask strongly to get your name printed. That's the only way to build a portfolio. (also known as a scrapbook in my house :-) )
