I'm running IE6 and have Google as the home page.I want to change this as my homepage but it keeps returning.

I do not want to use another browser.

    Has anyone any genuine suggestions.

    Thanks in advance

Go to [Tools]->[Internet Options] and change the text in the Home-Page field to something else.

Use about:blank to display a blank page

if u have access to/are comfortable with regedit u can change the home page from there

    go to

    hkey current_user > software > microsoft > internet explorer > main

and change the value of the 'start page' key in that list

also uninstalling any google sotware would help as irlrobins suggested

Sorry, regedit tells me it cannot edit the start page! No Google stuff or extra toolbars, just the bog standard.

    Would gmail be the cause?

Shouldn't be no, i can't see google resorting to these dirty tactics, they already have such a strong market hold, to risk destroying their nice-guy brand image would be ludicrous

It is a home computer so I have the rights. The original homepage was Microsoft.

Are you the sole user of the computer, i.e. is your account an administrator or limited account. If the latter, you'll have to get in contact with whoever set up the pc or someone else with an admin account

If you have Lavasoft Ad-Aware, go to Settings->Defaults and there you can read what your current page is (google in this case) and then change it, click Proceed when you are done. Hope that helps.

I sorted out this problem! Downloaded/installed regcleaner and ran it.
