LCD (HD Ready) TV as a monitor replacement

I'm thinking of buying an LCD (HD Ready) TV as my PC monitor replacement, as I noticed that LCD monitors are very pricey.

Can I expect any loss in quality or what are the pros/cons in doing so?

    Thanks.

There are big issues with Nvidia drivers and Lcd tvs. Just a warning.

The graphics card I have has the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS Graphics Processor.
    It's the Gainward GeForce 6800GS.

You might want to think about it then, the problem arose with the 8.?? series of drivers and hasn't been solved yet. You might end up buying it and getting no signal. I'm not saying this is definatly going to happen, but theres a chance.

As for the gaming end of things, handy if you have a wireless keyboard and mouse so you can sit back from the tv.

Many LCD HDTV's come with a PC DVI/VGA input which makes it act as a normal computer display you shouldn't have any trouble with your 6800GS.

The only major thing is that wide screen resolutions are supported by all games out of the box, it's gotten a lot better recently but there are still the occasional new ones that don't.

Not sure exactly what the problem krazy_8s is referring to with the 8x.xx series drivers could be bugs with fixed aspect ratio scaling or the custom resolutions bug neither of which would affect you if you get a HDTV with a PC input which comes programmed with supported PC resolutions up to 1366 x 768.

Of course one possible down side is that tearing could be visible with v-sync disabled, it's a tricky one to call some displays are different in how noticeable it would be.

I've two Nvidia cards; a 6800GS and a 5600. The 5600 won't show me boot screens on my HDTV (Toshiba) and sometimes the graphics are garbled on return from suspend mode, but the 6800GS works flawlessly.

I would say that, when you know which TV you want, then do your homework to see if anyone else has had problems. It's hit'n'miss, if you ask me.
