Duplicating The Polariser Effect

This is a useful technique for duplicating the effect of a polariser filter in Photoshop. It doesn't exactly do so of course, but it comes close, and is handly for those shots where you wish you'd used one:
    1. Make a duplicate layer
    2. Use the Multiply blending mode
    3. Click on the Layer Mask button to create a mask for the second layer
    4. Select that mask with your mouse
    5. Press D and then X on your keyboard so that black is the background colour
    6. Select the Gradient tool and draw a vertical line in your photo starting from the very bottom of the photo all the way to the top
    7. Repeat until you get the effect you are happy with. Reduce or increase the opacity of the Gradient tool as necessary

    Regards,

    Carrigman

A while back, I bought a Canon 300V on ebay just to get the 28mm lens it was bundled with and then found it came with another bonus - a polarizer that fits both the 28mm and my 50. With the sunny weather over the last few weeks I've used it quite a bit.

that method still won't take glare off water or windows though, it may help darken the sky in a similar way though

i just bougt a new polariser and neutral density filter that i've yet to play with
