    Can palm trees actually grow in Ireland? I've seen them in peoples' gardens and wonder how they survive frost...

    we have a huge one in our garden, two actually, one grew from nothing...well a seed but with no help, never any issues with it, maybe pull out a few dead leaves every so often thats it tho

    Do you mean the (in)famous Cordyline Australis or Cabbage Palm which actually comes from New Zealand?

    it's because of our gulf stream... aren't we lucky? in other northern european countries such as germany palm trees can't survive

    Trachycarpus fortuneii (Chusan Tree) is a true palm and very hardy, considered by many to be the best Palm tree growing in the British Isles.
