Upsizing a dish but motor is only for 90cm

I currently have a 90 cm dish on a motor mount but want to upgrade my dish to a 1.2 as I find some of the signals are weak and get a bit of rain drain as well. Would it be possible to use the motor mount for a few weeks until I can afford a new motor or would I have to change it at the same time

If the motor says up to 90cm dish supported, I wouldn't risk buggering it up by having it turn a 1.2m around even for a few weeks.
I would sell the 90cm motor and use the profits to offset the cost of a new motor.

Ok will do that will stick the 90 on Astra 2 and the 1.2 on Hotbird using a DiSEqC switchfor the moment

probably better off getting a polar mount type setup with a 36 volt motor which would have no problem moving the 1.2m dish. its also a lot quicker than your current setup. you will need a 36v positioner though.

Doubt if my budget or wife would allow that :)

An 80cm will work well on Hotbird. Are you sure your 90cm is well aligned? Use fine adjustment SW or deliberately change your own degrees west 0.6 more East and 0.6 more west on weak channel to check alignment.

Did a bit of re-aligning on the dish and motor and signal strenght is a lot better, I do seem to have lost Arabsat but it was patchy before anyway. But I do now get Turksat which I never had before. Turns out the dish is only 80cm so may upgrade to a 90cm anyway as I live out in Connemara :)
