Well it seems to be especially After Hours but it's other Forums too...and it's not as bad now that the search thing is pretty much gone... but whenever a topic is posted, they seem to spend all their time trawling through old topics looking for one that matches it. Do they do this for every single topic?? It's not that big a deal! Get over it. I'm not gonna mention any names, but some people are especially bad for it.

*waits for someone to post link to almost identical topic*

    Name and Shame.

Ps you do know this has been posted before...

I think it's just symptomatic that more folk have had internet access for a significant period so it's getting a bit repetitive finding the same topics appear time after time. It's even worse if you use several forums.

You seem to think the person posting the link is in some way having a dig, but I think it's because they know long-reg'd people won't reply to the new thread so they point folk to the answers.

    I don't get it.

And if it's been posted before (I didn't know... but yeah I suppose I could have guessed), that's ironic, right? Or something.

the OP was on about people linking back to threads that have been done before.

i simply made a link to the 1337est thread on boards, and made it look like that this thread had been posted before. :D

Fair enough but surely you considered the fact that we would open the link ;o)

Ah okay I see... it's all clear now.

And yeah, that was a pretty good reply (even if I had to have it explained...)

It's only done if; A) the previous thread was less than 2 weeks ago or B) the previous thread was particularly memorable.

Copy rubbish old threads and you can get away with anything.

Why? It's wasn't funny or clever.

    it's a no win situation.

if you bump an old thread, one of the mods will lock it and say that it has run its course.

Re-read the link for the thread.

If there was a proper search facility then topics / threads would not be duplicated as much.

Even when there was on you still got 'Tards and egocentrics that never use search.
Linking in a former thread is a good thing to do, as it adds to the thread the posts, facts and opinions from the former thread as most of them will not be posted again and there often is valulible facts and info in them.
