Would I be able to pick up Free View in Cavan town if I bought one of the receivers in the North?

It depends on how strong your incoming signals are, and from which transmitter.

Moved to Terrestrial where you might get better reply.

are you getting near perfect analogue signals from a DTT enabled transmitter

It's a bit of a hit and miss thing, but a good rule of thumb is that if you are getting a near perfect BBC terrestrial picture at present then you've a very good chance.
I'm near Shercock with a poor BBC picture, so no go. On the other hand, my brother in Carrickmacross is getting a reception.

Your chances in Cavan town should be good. From what I've seen, Brougher Mountain belts into there quite well. However ensure that analogue pictures are fairly good with no or very little snow before venturing into getting a STB - don't worry about ghosting though as DTT/Freeview easily tolerates this.

Just remember that say if you plan to get a STB from the likes of Argos, they are excluded from the 16-day no-quibble guarantee they have.

But Argos can't remove your rights, if it doesn't work you can still take it back and get a refund from Argos (I've done this on excluded items). The 16 day thing allows you to take back things that work but you don't like! No-signal would not count as "doesn't work".

Agros always say when excluding such products that the statoury rights aren't affected. Of course you can take it back if the item is faulty.

I used keep a list of places that were successfully getting Freeview in an old thread.

It disappeared some time ago but I do recall Cavan Town was clearing ok.

ask around locally if you really want confirmation..

come back and let us know how you got on.

BTW Film 4 now on Freeview.

I live just outside Cavan Town, at Cullies, and get a great Freeview reception if that's any help.
