Hey all, first pic post in here.

I've only recently escaped the world of my 3 megapixel compact, here's one of my first attempts at playing around with long exposures, taken by the grand canal dock.

    DSC00721-700.jpg

I'm trying to get into photoshop so if anyone's got advice on how to make the sky less boring i'd be glad to take it. Full size pic is available here.

    Thanks.

I personally wouldn't worry too much about the sky, it adds to the overall mood of the picture I reckon. What camera are you using? /me thinks picture is pretty good. :)

Sony Cybershot DSC-H1, I'm don't think I can quite justify the cost of a DSLR quite yet...

The sky is quite interesting as it is so I wouldn't be inclined to go too mental with it.
The picture is well exposed and well framed, stick it in the city scapes photo challenge above ^^, You never know your luck!

lovely light captured in the photo ,well done .I think the sky is cool ,it's not like it's dark and theres nothing to look at.

I think the sky is fine also.. but as you said has anyone got any advice I said I would give it a go...

Here what I came up with for the sky...(take into account I did this in like 3 minutes and I still think the sky you have is grand...)

    dsc00721ms8.jpg

    Baiscally all I did was:

    (1)enter quick mask mode
    (2)select the sky
    (3)exit quick mask mode
(4)inverse my selection so only the sky is selected
(5)Then I played around in Image>Adjustments>Colour Balance with the red slider to make the sky look more "sun setty" lol

I used photoshop cs2 so I dont know if quick mask mode is in another version that you might have like 7...

    Hope that helps :D;)

I wouldn't bother a whole lot about the sky, I quite like it. What I would do is tone down the wood a liitle bit to suit the image, it'd balance out the rest a lot more :)

    Good shot.
