    does anyone know how long you have to be working in an institution before recieving holiday pay?...

    Holiday pay is done on a percentage of how many hours you have worked, and how much you have earned, you start earning it immediatly. I don't know when it's paid out though.

    oasis.gov.ie has all the details. But basically its based on the number of hours you work so its effective immediately.

    e.g. lets say you start working in January and you have 20 days holiday for the year. Thats 1.67 days per month. So strictly speaking you can take 1.67 days off at the end of January. Generally companies allow you to take days off on the assumption you will be there for the rest of the year. ie. you may be allowed to take a week off in january even though strictly speaking you are not entitled to that for a few months. But you would have to check this out with your employer. If you left the company having taken more days than you had worked up then this would be taken out of your last pay cheque.
