    Afternoon all.

On the above bird, National Geographic (Turkey, English stream available) and Fox Sports are both FTA.

I can receive National Geographic without problems, but Fox Sports signal keeps fading in and out making it unwatchable.

What size dish would you recomend for W2? I am in Kildare.

    Thanks,

    MJ

    Hi Watty,
Yeah I should have mentioned dish size. I have an 80cm dish.

105cm in north Kildare does me fine for all of 16E, barring slight interference from 19E analogue. When you think you have an issue on 16E, double-check the frequency against both 19 and 13E analogue, and theres a damn good chance it collides.

"double-check the frequency against both 19 and 13E analogue"

OK, you lost me there :)

simular frequencies on both satellites. As they are close 2gether they interfear with each other.

Good point. I get excellent signal strength, with my 1.1m dish, on most frequencies on 16E but on some frequencies the picture breaks up (usually news feeds). It had not occurred to me that there could be interference from 13E or 19E.

I presume there is nothing I can do about this....

Fox sports is fading a lot on me here on a 1m dish in roscommon. Infact a lot of 16east is coming in a lot lower power for me.

Sometimes minor tweaking of the dish or the skewing can help, but they're problematic to fiddle with on motorised dishes.

Sure I might have a fiddle with it tomorrow then.

    Thanks for the info.

Ronan, is Fox Sports FTA always on W2?

    Thanks,
    MJ

Fox Sports/LBC Europe transponder won't tune for me here... too sodding close to the 7 Gold transponder one up from it (3Mhz) and the Technomate can't even see it.

Yeah, my Strong 6355 and silvercrest SL65 both pick up Fox sports as 7 Gold, yet display Fox Sports in a completley unwatchable manner.

    Pity :(

My finds with Fox Sports 16east: A must channel if you enjoy watching cricket!

Im in Galway and find an 80cm with Invacom .3lnb will bring it in perfect with cloudless skys. Even with one fluffy white cloud in front of the satellite will make it go blocky. (Today it is coming in at 70% strength and 49% Quality). When cloud gets in the way the quality reduces down to 25-27%.

I have the LNB skewed towards the right to about 1 O'Clock.

My Technomate 8000ci will not bring it in at all. It only finds 7Gold. Now i think this is because you cannot set the FEC (Fox sports is 7/8 and 7Gold is 5/6) When my Technomate scans it just finds 7Gold because its much stronger and FEC is set to Auto?

My nokia 9800s brings it in no problem and finds both Fox sports and LBC along with 7Gold. Fox sports and LBC are unnamed.

I am thinking of getting a 1m with .2lnb to see if this will bring it in any better as I want to watch the up and coming mini world cup in India in October and hopefully the Ashes in November/December, But we know what the weather in the west of Ireland is like in Autumn!

A 80cm --> 100cm is a huge difference. A regular LNB to 0.2dB NF may make no difference or even make some channels worse!

Yeah LNBs are strange things. With Sirius my .3lnb is not as good as my old Cambridge .6lnb! Looking for quotes at the moment for a 1m dish? Tony doesn't seem to have them which is a shame.

I can't get a sniff of this Fox Sports. I have some channels on the Triax 100/110cm motorised dish on 16E at 90signal and 85% Quality.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

what LNB are you using? I can only get fox sports with my Invacomb no other lnb that i have will pull it in. at the moment since sun has gone its booming in. My technomate will not bring it in but its coming in strong now on an 80cm on nokia 9800s.

Fox Sports is far more receiver dependent than dish size dependent. Its microtransponder can't be picked up by my Technomate even though the dish is clearly fine.

i think its the first channel i have found that behaves like this. Reciever, lnb etc. I still think that a bigger dish for me with my nokia will improve reception in less clement weather (I hope)
