Not much point except for mesh C Band with C band LNBF

Much harder to align and much more exensive on mounts , concrete etc.
Can't use an ordinary Diseqc motor either.

Yeah, there is virtually NOTHING to get (barring one of the two polarities on Nilesat) with anything bigger than a 1.2 in Ireland; until you venture in to C band. And C band is such a hugely different kettle of fish entirely its barely worth venturing in to (I'll leave that to Zaphod...). Indeed, a 1.0 will do you for all bar a few low power transponders around....

Not sure if mesh vs. solid is an issue with C Band however.

C-band is lower freq so even home brew with 1/2" chicken wire and plywood is an option. Solid is fine, just HEAVY!

You need a lot of space for 3.4m!

I have a 1.1m since last week and I get the few transponders I couldn't with a Lidl 80cm dish. I'm going to try a 90/96cm Triax and suspect it will do as good just with reduced rain margin.

With 3.4 you would need an attenuator on some satellites, you will actually degrade some weaker transponders on the strong satellites due to overloading the receiver! I always suspected this and recent issue of Tele Satellite proved it.

is it impossible, ie due to curvature of earth etc... to pick up US channels?

Theoretically it's possible to go to go as far 84W from Ireland's west coast.

    Practically it's a different story.

I can't get 58W, blocked by a house I think. 45W I get. Also anything more East than 42E I think I'm too low also.
