**** Apple up the arse

As I sit here, I'm currently waiting for a replacement power lead for my MacBook Pro to arrive. The only way I can use my MacBook at the moment, is by pressing in really hard on the MacSafe connection, and holding it there for about 5 seconds and sloooowly taking my hand away. 9 times out of ten power just goes off again, but maybe once, the battery will charge for maybe, 5 minutes before cutting out again.
    Think different. My ****ing arse.

I'm just off the phone to Apple. After a 30 minute phonecall with somebody that I could bearly understand, I was sent round in circles. I knew it was going to go badly wrong when I had to say my serial number 6 times...

The cloest I got to a result was when he recommended I drive to my closest Apple dealer (Sligo) to let them check it out.

He wasn't able to tell me what they'd actually do if they found it to be a hardware fault, which of course, it is. This makes the journey even more riskier - am I going to travel all that way just for some guy who has passed a few Apple tech exams to suck air through his teeth and say "Yep, it's buzzing ok, definitiely the main board I'm afriad". I'll drive all the way back, get on the phone to be told that I'm going to have to post the damn thing back, and be without a computer for 3 weeks while they "repair" the damn thing, and the other 3/4 things that are wrong with it!

Why not to buy a Mac:
    • High pitched screech coming from top left of the keyboard.
    • Laptop becomes so warm, my hands are constantly sweaty while using it. It's painful to touch, and impossible to set on my lap[top].
    • It has a quiet "mooing" sound. This happens randomly. Like grazing.
    • Quiet screen-hissing.
    • A faulty power supply.

Fair enough, Mac might be able to work "out of the box". But how long before you have to just pack it up and set it back again?

Apples QA department is a ****ing disgrace. If they paid more attention to getting their product made right, rather than keeping them secret then ****ing them out the door by the ****load when they announce them, they might not have to ****ing well complain about only being 9% of the computer market.

To make things worse, Mactivate won't pick up their ****ing phone.
    I'm rightly ****ed off.

    S.

Please ensure the unit is powered off before attempting the thread title.

Anyway, I've been having a similar problem with my 4 week old Sony Vaio, I've been told this, and that, try this, no it must be you, are you sure of this, doesn't sound like a big problem, we will have to bill you for this, and that - I PAID 1,300 4 WEEKS AGO YOU ****TARDS, I DON'T WANT YOUR ****ING CRAPPY EXCUSES, I WANT THE LAPTOP I PAID YOU HANDSOMELY FOR A VERY SHORT TIME AGO YOU TIGHT ARSED ****S.

I suspect you feel the same about your MAC. ;)

Same stuff happens to my GFs G4 Powerbook, especially the overheating. Though I must say the "mooing" can be quite amusing sometimes.

Not sure if you should go to these guys, we sent the powerbook here to get repaired and the fcuked a few things up and missed the fact the keybaord was still faulty.

I too am rightly p*ssed off with Apple.
My macbook dies within one month of purchase and the refuse to replace it.

I have to bring it to the service centre *MYSELF*....despite the fact they will send a courier if my 300 quid ipod broke, they won't do the same for a 1500 euro laptop! Oops, sorry, it's a notebook not a laptop.

I'm without my macbook almost a week now, to be honest i'm thinking of just selling it and getting another powerbook. I never had a problem with my 12" powerbook. Not one.

<duck>Tell us how you really feel sinecurea</duck>

Where did you buy it? Through AppleStore? Isn't there some sort of return system? They've obviously flogged you a dodgy model and presumably you'[re within your rights to demand a replacement. Have you looked at Consumers' Association of Ireland?

Ah, I see you're in Norn Iron. I've read a bunch of stuff on uk.comp.sys.mac about consumers' rights being invoked, perhaps you should have a look in google groups.

OK guys get a grip so your new computer has gone pear shaped.
    Hers is your options
You have 90 days telephone support, that covers the OS only fair enough.
The unit has 1 year warranty, that means if it fails it gets fixed without you paying for parts and labour. Fair enough.

If you get a maintenance on it a replacement unit is issued on loan until yours is repaired that’s what smart people who need their systems for business purposes do.
Just because your unlucky the whole world is not going to turn up at your door with new laptops/notebooks whatever.

If Apple gave a new system out every time there is a failure what do you think might happen? Thought about it yet ,has it come to you?

Policies differ on system types ie the repair procedure. Long story short should take no more than 14days

If you need extra cover you could try applemacireland.com they are independent and could help.

So is this a case of "Waahh, my nice new shiny toy broke & they're being mean to me! Waahh!" ? :p

But damn, Apple screwed up with their transition (say those whose machines have failed)

Well so far, no problems with mine, and its a month old now (15" 2.16GHz Macbook Pro).

No issues with the power supply, no major issues with heat, not much. I did notice the noise from the top left of the keyboard, but it was not high-pitched, I cant really describe it, but its some how related to the USB ports. I hear the same noise from my PC and it stops as soon as I move my USB mouse along the mat. When I leave the mouse alone, the noise comes back.

You'd swear by the tone of the OP's comments that Apple were the only people to make goods that have failed when relativly new.

There are people out there paying over €100K for a new merc and having problems.

Some products go wrong, it's life, get over it. Just because they don't have a fully qualified engineer wearing a tux waiting at your door when things go wrong does not mean they are providing poor customer service.

Personally any time I took a within warranty apple product back to the reseller I bought it from it only took a matter of days to get it back repaired and working.

Look, you have no idea. They sold ipods with faulty batteries and said "So buy a new battery" - within the warrenty period, and then charged labour costs. I know people who have gone through up to 4 and 5 ipods! It's not just a one off - the same thing has happened over loads of products in their range on a scale that I've never hear dof before. I'm never buying an ipod.
But I know, I know, "why did you buy a feckin' Macbook Pro then?". Because I was foolish and followed my heart instead of my head, but more importantly, I didn't realise all the **** that was going to happen with the MBP. It was after I saw the MBP troubles that I because properly aware of all the crap they'd done.
I'm not sayin they all break, but I'm not going to take the risk until they sort out their QA procedures.
