Internet popups

I'd like to ask, how are an increasing number of websites able to use popups which can bypass blockers? I've seen several examples where the IE popup blocker tries to block something but then it gets through anyway.

I'm so tempted to disable JavaScript altogether but that will "break" things that are supposed to work.

I don't use IE for a start, but thats just a personal preference.

With FF, I get almost no popups, but the very odd one slips through the net. 1 every 2 hours or something.

A lot of it is down to what sites you visit as well. Also, if you have certain spyware on your system, this can also bring up popups relating to what you are browsing.

Perhaps you could do a scan, change your browser and be selective about what sites you visit.

Hmm, haven't got a pop up for years.
FF, I use. IE always gets them for me.
    Less porn op. ;)

    Check for spyware etc

My system is clean, no spyware worries here. :)

I actually have "in my hands" an example of a script which triggers this. By the looks of things it tries to generate a popup twice, the first time it's caught but the second time it breaks through. I'll attach it on here if anyone's interested.

I got hit by spyware once and switched to FF for a few days but I just didn't like it. I just thought some websites looked "wrong." So I switched back to IE but decided to be more vigilent. I also don't like Firefox's "forced" marketing (Explorer Destroyer etc). It doesn't make me switch, just makes me vote with my mouse and not visit that site again.

These are my personal opinions, some may think its bull but hey, everyone's entitled to their own. :)

Theres a number of add-ons you can get for Firefox, No Script is good where you can allow Javascript whenever you want to and only allow the main site access and not the popup sites.
