Not sure why I'm posting this but here goes.

About 8 years ago a few weeks before my finals in college I started getting dizzy spells when I would lie on my right side. Had some tests done and they found an abnormality in my neck, a kind of peg on one of the vertebrae had started pushing on my brainstem. I was told to watch for symptoms and let the doctors know if there was any deterioration, they would do "heroic" surgery if called for. Haven't had any symptoms since.

Then one of the dizzy spells this morning. I know it sounds dramatic but I feel like the clock on a dusty old time bomb just lit up and started ticking.

    :( :(

    Hi,

I had something similiar a few weeks ago. I was getting very bad dizzy spells whenever I moved my neck into a certain position and always when I first lied down in bed or say bending down to look into an oven etc.

It was quite bad at times, it affected my sense of balance and sometimes I could even feel the blood pulsing in my neck during a bad episode. It also affected my vision which started to jump up and down.

The doctor sent me for an x-ray and nothing showed up, I researched a bit on the web which didnt really show up much either. I got some physio on my neck which really helped for 2 or 3 days until it came back again.

Eventually I figured out what was causing it. When I sit at my desk at work I had a tendancy to not rest my right arm on the desk when using the mouse, I was essentially holding my arm up all day long while using the mouse and these badly strained the muscles running from the top of my shoulder to my neck and obviously was pinching a blood vessel that runs up the neck and into the brain (found that out from the web). it is this lack of blood supply to the brain that causes he dizziness etc.

So maybe you should look at simple day to day things that may be straining your neck muscles, how you sit in chairs, driving the car, etc etc.

Thanks man, will look into that. Hopefully it's something like that.

Just dreading being told there's surgery needed coz I don't think I could do it.

Hey. I think you should go to your Doctor as soon as you can just to be safe. Better safe than sorry as they say. Good luck and I hope everything works out OK. :)

Just to help put your mind at ease.

My Mother suffered from dizzy spells for quite some time a few years back
(10 or so). Doctors done all sorts of tests on her they ranged from Vertigo tests to tests on her Inner ear and all sorts of stress tests. The problem she had was when she sat down for a long time and then stood up she would become dizzy and lose her balance, She suffered from what she thought were migranes very frequently and was always tired.
Eventually they found exactly what you are talking about on her spine operated and she has been in perfect health ever since. I think she was in hospital for around 5 days the surgey was a huge sucess and there was very little chance of it not being successful.

I think the problem you are going through is not that rare so surgery is almost routine at this stage.

Funny stories around this....My Ma started to get a fear of going out in Public as she thought the neighbours would think she was a bit of a dipso with all the wobbling and stuff :D

My brother would take the piss out of her by running around her in circles to make her dizzy...she colapse on the couch in fits of laughter then she'd nearly piss her self with the laughter as she couldn't get back up of the couch.

    Ma's are great:D

Good to hear that others have come through this. I've made an appointment to have it looked into.
