    Hi Edges,

The two day seminar sounds great. I attended one of Pat's seminars about 10years ago  and really enjoyed it. It was very well presented and the athmosphere was very friendly. I will try to make it along if that is ok.

If I'm not mistaken I think Paul Cox was at the first workshops in Eskrima that I Taught at Shay club way back in the early 90's, when I was teaching under the Rapid Arnis banner of Pat Malley and John Harvey. Great to see another person taking an Interest in developing Silat in Dublin. Good luck with the workshop.

    Of course you can ask!

We teach Doce Pares on behalf of GM Danny Guba

Paul and I were and still are Rapid Arnis, about a year ago we heard about Grand Master Danny Guba living in London. I went over to a seminar of his and was literally blown away by this guy. Since then Paul travels over on a monthly basis to train privately with Danny.

We teach the Guba Doce Pares System but still incorporate much of the Rapid Arnis, and to be totally honest we do add in other stuff we pick up and like. We do tell you all our sources. Unfortunatly Danny cant make this seminar, but we will have him over in the near future.

Careful Liam, would you like to tell the forum as to why you no longer teach the eskrima, and your relationship with Pat O'Malley, Paul Cox and indeed Krishna Godhania?

    Hi Edges
What to be careful about??? To answer your questions why do I no longer teach Eskrima? Is very simple my first love of the arts is Silat. I ve study 6 styles of Silat and very simply didnt have time to continued learning and promoting Eskrima. 2. After promoting and hosting the European Eskrima Championships in Northern Ireland in 1995, I decided that due to a hell a lot of (eskrima) politics, that I would moved back to Silat. Couple of year back we had John Harvey and Jude Tucker over teaching a seminar in Dublin and the funniest thing was their Representatives in Dublin wouldnt travel out to Tallaght to train with them.

My Relationship with Paul Cox if he the same Paul I remember(and I could be wrong) was is very simple is I just remember him (if the same person??) from shay Mc Namee club. Shay invited me down from the North a number of times to help promote and teach Eskrima (Rapid Arnis)in Dublin at that time. If I'm not wrong around 1992/1993 .

My Relationship with John Harvey, Jude Tucker and Pat O' Malley is good, even though I dont train under them now, they are all worthy teachers and have done a great job in Promoting Eskrima and getting it establish, who along with Krishina who also is a very good instructor. I trained with him for a couple of years along side the Rapid Arnis group and had a very good time. A number of my students have been to his seminars in the North (Ballymena) when he been over and they doesnt seem to be a problem.

Edges I'm sorry if bringing up wishing you well with your seminar has cause you any offence in any way., or if you think I'm stepping on your toes. I was just glad to see another person in Ireland, having an Interest in promoting Silat.

Its a very small world and when you do Martial Arts especially in the South East Asian Circles its often you meet up with people, from the past.

Liam, I extend an invitation for you to come down to the seminar in August and repaet that statement to Sifu Shay MacNamee, Paul Cox and Tuhon Pat O'Malley.

I might even get on the phone to Krishna, he may have some more good luck charms for you.

Edges you seem to be getting a little bit paranoid about this.
No Problem edges, would you like me to bring along some photos of me teaching at Shay clubs along with some video evidence of this actually happening. Or maybe some of Pat and John teaching seminars for me, by the way,Shay actually graded and trained under me in Dublin and I actually stayed in his house a number of times, also made his way north on two occassions to the Wigmore master summer camp near coleraine in 1992 and also to Kilrea in 1993 wher he graded for his 4th level. I believe at the time Tony murphy was his assistant. If I remember there was abit of falling out when Tony pass his 5th grade and shay didnt. If you like more details in public format feel free or you can PM.

Whats the story with Krishna and the lucky charms?? havnt a clue what you on about here. I brought Krishna to Ireland (Kilrea) about 8 times have it on video if you need proof. Dont remember him any times using lucky charms????

You seem to have somehow got a bee in your bonnet, if you feel under fired because I mention maybe knowing you, or your friend (Paul) than maybe you need to stay off forums. Thank you for your offer I had a number of guys interested in maybe coming along due to the fact that you wwere bringing a silat guy over, but if a reply to your post cause so much offence than maybe we better not go.

Feel free to contact me, if you want to talk about the past, but in reality dont be boring people on forum with politics there plenty of room in Dublin for everyone.

and was one of the first people in Ireland to train in Eskrima

Just to clarify, Eskrima was first introduced in Ireland in 1987 when Carol Stephenson organised a seminar with Nino Bernardo, which certainly opened my eyes to the world of FMA and if I'm not mistaken a young Scuttery1 who was also present at that seminar. I continued to train FMA and was so impressed with both the system and Nino that I moved to London in 1989 in order to train with him.
I might even get on the phone to Krishna, he may have some more good luck charms for you

I certainly don't think you should be referring to a third party in your discussion, particularly when you don't have any association with him.

By the way good luck with the seminar, always great to have more new FMA systems introduced in the country, and please give Pat my regards.

Just catch up with this thread, gotta say I'm very surprised to see Guro Krishna's name being dragged into this exchange, considering the fact that neither Guro Krishna nor Warriors Eskrima have any involvement with either party in this "dispute".
I don't know what the agendas (sic) of either particepent are but this surely isn't doing FMA/Silat any favours indulging in this kinda thing on an open forum, gonna recommend you take to PM if it's that important. I wish "edges"ell doing his thang, Liam well doing his thang & I'm very happy doing my thang
if I'm not mistaken a young Scuttery1 who was also present at that seminar.
Yep I wuz there fado, fado with me transformer light up dagger... more hair less belly but aint that the way of it!

Thanks Dave, you and your guys are welcome to attend, will call you through the week re more Sayoc meets, was unable to make the Tom Kier seminar and am sick because of reading all the great reports.

As to my mentioning Krishna, I don't mean him any offence, he's a decent bloke and I will be training with him again in the near future.

Just to let you all know, space is limited, will need conformations from people by the end of the week.

We will also be having a BBQ on the Sat night as it is Pat's birthday, only an extra tenner per head (you buy your own drink!)

Not as yet. Although I would love to!

There are no FISFO reps in Ireland, and unfortunatley I have enough (almost too much) on my plate at the mo to commit to training their system.

It is similar enough to the Kenpo that we teach that we can add in elements of the FISFO silat to our existing sylabus.

Maybe in the future we can get a class going, till then we'll keep going to Paris (shame!!:) ) and we'll keep bringing them over here.

Did you look up their site, www.fisfo.com?

    Hey All,

What a weekend! The Fisfo lads from Paris showed their modern take on the Malaysian art of Silat, a truelly awesome display. The instructor, Seb, is a talent that needs no translation from French to English!
We are now talking about associating our organisation with theirs. This means I might have to take regular trips to Paris to train with them! It's a hard life.

Pat and Lucy O'Malley took us through techniques from both Rapid Arnis and Doce Pares Eskrima, including their new "Rapid Response System", designed as a quick and easy method of knife defence.

Paul Cox spent time showing how Kenpo and eskrima are one and the same.

And guest instructor Steve H gave an hour long "smash and crash". As an Ex Marine and with 15 years as a british copper he took us through some of the knife defence that has kept him alive to this day.

All this with some great nights out in between.

We are in the process of writing up a full report this wil be put on our website. We're also trawling through the hours of video footage in order to put together a dvd of the seminar, if anybody can help with this it would be most appreciated.

    All the Best
